Aquila, officially known as the Aquilan Empire, is a major spacefaring nation located in the central part of sector A1-0. It borders the Zahamana Commonwealth to its northwest, the Ryccian Empire to its north, the Twilight Ascendancy and the Dovian Star Confederation to the east, the Treecuu Star Empire to the south, the Tusadu Confederacy to the southwest, and the Tiyanki Territories to its west.
Much of the territory of modern Aquila were inhabited by various different species, with the two most powerful being the reptilian-amphibian Thalrakis around the swamps of Ruva (modern day Ruwe) and the humanoid Pharalis around either the steppes of Ghorm or Ugrath (modern day Neu Aquila). Both the Thalrakis and Pharalis formed their own distinctive empires based around their homeworlds, exerting influence on the surrounding species for centuries. Relations between the two however were never peaceful, and wars were often fought between the Thalrakis' Ruven Empire and the two Pharali kingdoms of Ghorm and Ugrath.
Amidst these conflicts, Terran colonists began to settle in areas around Revel and Antares in XXXX BBT. The Ruven Empire would eventually recruit the Terrans to settle in various border regions of the Ruven Empire in return for their allegiance and service to Ruva. These Terrans would form the framework of the Zeniran States who, during the fall of the Ruven Empire, would secede and form their own confederacy.

The Pharali Empire was formed with the unification of the Kharzunates of Ghorm, Ugrath, Ghorrak, Zulmak, and Drokor with the election of the Kharzun of Ghorm, Murgok II, as the Kharzur, or Celestial King, of all the Pharalis.

In the wake of their defeat in the Third Ruven-Pharali War, the Pharali Empire was split between the two core worlds of the Pharalis: Ghorm and Ugrath. The Kharzunate of Ugrath believed that Ghorm had lost its heavenly mandate and sought to remove the Ghormish Kharzurs from their throne.
