Major Systems & Worlds

  • Shizuka System: A central joint in the telecommunications network connecting the Sephirot to the many ships, stations, and facilities residing within the Shizukana Expanse; may also hold some significance to Pelinese religion. Shizuka’s location is classified, and its status as a starless planetary system renders it nearly impossible to locate and accurately identify.
  • Asahikari System: A four-star system consisting of two binary star systems nested in a larger binary orbit, Asahikari is the largest star system in Pelinai by both number of stars and number of planets. The 44 planets in and around Asahikari, along with their many moons, are heavily fortified with both orbital weapons platforms and planetside defense systems. The collection of bodies also hosts a substantial portion of both the Pelinai Space Navy and the Pelinese industrial base. The planet Asahikari 4-7, AKA Haruhana, is a large oceanic world and is one of the most significant garden worlds in Pelinai.
  • Kuroikū system: A black hole system providing much of the raw material for Pelinai’s manufacturing.
  • Umihi system: An A-class star system functioning as a recycling center and storage depot for nano-agent.

Politics

Economy

Fuka is the Sephirah responsible for managing the factories, shipyards, and other production facilities used by the Kingdom of Pelinai, as well as allocating various amounts and types of manufacturing capacity to the other Sephirot. The lack of any population of non-Sephirah sentient beings in Shizukana means that Pelinai has no trade, money, or other “economy” in the traditional sense of the word; instead, the Sephirot place requests for specific ships, stations, and other manufactured items that are then produced by Fuka and transferred to them.

Industry

Industrial infrastructure is extremely widespread across planetary and orbital environments in the Shizuka Expanse, although the extent of development varies widely depending on factors such as useable construction area, allocation of planetary and orbital zones to other purposes, and proximity of the system to the core territory of Pelinai. The Sephirot make widespread usage of scaleable, prefabricated, and self-expanding infrastructure architectures in order to facilitate the rapid establishment and expansion of new production zones; example systems of this type include prefabricated whole satellites and stations, orbital ring station sections, and Nan-O planetary conversion modules.
The largest single-system concentration of industrial capacity in Pelinai is the Asahikari system, followed by Aohikari, Akataiyō, and Sekiei.

Shipyards

Dedicated shipyards capable of producing spacecraft to military-grade specifications are extremely common in Shizukana’s many Pelinese systems; most orbits around Pelinese planets and moons have at least one station dedicated to producing ships, and additional facilities may be located planetside. Manufacturing the large quantities of ships used for mining, industrial, logistics, military, and other purposes, as well as replacement components for them, constitutes a significant portion of Pelinai’s resource consumption and industrial output.

Technology

Nano-agent

Self-Replicating Adaptive Liquid (SRAL), typically known colloquially by the name of nanoagent or Nan-O, is a nanoscale, biomechanical, remotely directed entity that forms a translucent turquoise liquid when agglomerated together. Its notable properties include the ability to modify its color, transparency, hardness, texture, and other physical properties on command, as well as its abilities to function as a computing medium, power and replicate itself by consuming external matter and energy, and harden into a semisolid capable of changing its shape, grasping and moving objects, and acting as a structural member. Nan-O is also sufficiently temperature, electricity, radiation, and chemical-resilient to allow for its deployment and operation in most planetary and space environments without necessitating restrictive shielding.
This extremely high degree of versatility and environmental adaptability has led to Nan-O’s wide deployment throughout Pelinese technology of all kinds. It circulates throughout most Pelinese installations, ships, vehicles, and other hardware, where it transports internal resources like fuel, spare parts, and ammunition, performs maintenance, mends damaged or worn-out components and cables, patches hull damage, and protects equipment from boarding attempts. Its ability to self-sustain and self-replicate using ISRU, perform construction work, and form a computational medium also allow for its usage in the creation of so-called “gelatin planets” that serve as large-scale datacenters. It is also the most common method used in the creation or Sephirotic avatars, especially ones that are not pre-prepared, due to its capabilities in self-modification of shape, color, and other physical properties.

Infrastructure

Planetside

Orbital

Fuyuhi and Fuka choose to maintain a dense system of orbital infrastructure around systems under Pelinese control in order to provide critical functionality in communications, manufacturing, energy generation, logistics, defense, and other sectors that support the activities of the Sephirot and the Heavenly Guardianship of Pelinai. Commonly deployed station types within the Shizuka Expanse include communications relays, orbital weapons platforms, orbit-planetside cargo transfer terminals, military and utility vessel basing facilities, energy production stations of various types, space observation satellites, and multifunction planet-encircling ring stations. Many of these infrastructure systems are produced whole or in prefabricated flat-pack modules in order to facilitate large-scale manufacturing, ease of inter-system transportation, and swift on-site deployment.

Communications relays

In order to facilitate the effective control of ships, facilities, and other hardware by the Sephirot, a large number of communications relay stations are deployed throughout the Shizuka Expanse. These relays, while capable of extremely high-bandwidth interstellar communications using gravitational waves, are short-ranged in comparison to those used by other star nations because of interference imposed by the sensor-opaque environment that they operate in. The architecture consists of a core of large, high-capacity relay stations that transport information across longer distances and branch signals into smaller, local satellites that then transport them to their specific destination system.

Docking stations

Docking stations used for refueling, maintenance, and short-term storage of Pelinese vessels are deployed in virtually all systems with a Pelinese station presence. Docks vary greatly in the size and number of ships that they are designed to support, but are capable of using drones, shuttles, and other small craft to perform basic operations on ships outside of the dock’s intended size range with reduced efficiency. While most dock station types are intended to remain in a single orbit for long periods of time, small platforms configured to host large volumes of smaller ship classes are typically fitted for transportation by standard oversize cargo transporters in order to facilitate their usage as ship containers.

Energy facilities

Pelinese energy and fuel production facilities make use of an extremely wide variety of production processes, which are selected for optimal yield based on local circumstances and available resources. The most widespread type of energy production facility by fraction of total energy generation is the star-orbiting solar energy satellite. Many millions of these satellites are deployed in large megaconstellations covering most built-up Pelinese systems, and produce energy by absorbing starlight and using particle accelerators to convert the absorbed energy into highly portable antimatter that may be transferred onto logistics drones and distributed to consuming systems.
The second most widely applied energy generation method in Pelinai, after solar-antimatter complexes, is conventional fusion reaction using helium and hydrogen harvested from gas giants. These systems are used to power low-consumption systems in locations where their fuel is readily available from the environment, as well as an alternative primary fuel source for the conventional energy-antimatter supply chain.

Logistics terminals

Combination orbital loading/unloading terminals are widely used within Pelinese space to handle commonly transported resources like construction materials, prefabricated hardware, and portable energy supplies. They may be deployed as free-orbiting stations, which facilitate supply chain buffering and transfer between different cargo vessels, or as extension modules for orbit-planetside cargo transfer infrastructure like space elevators that improve the energy efficiency of moving resources onto and off of planetary environments.

Ring stations

Ring stations in the Pelinese incarnation are large, multifunction stations providing a combination of cargo transfer, defensive, and construction capacity functions. They encircle the planets that they orbit and are thus too large to be efficiently assembled from the standard module sizes used by other large Pelinese station types, and are instead built from a selection of much larger, function-specific sections according to the desired properties of the completed station.
When circumstances allow for it, a Pelinese ring station is always anchored to the planet that it orbits by an array of three to six large space elevators. This elevator complex is used to provide extremely energy-efficient transfer of bulk cargo to and from the planetary surface, leading to the wide deployment of ring stations around planets with high levels of planetside installations and activity.
Ring stations are the preferred mounting platform for Pelinese shipyards manufacturing the full range of ship sizes and types due to their favorable orbital environment and high level of access to cargo transfer capacity. All stations have at least one combination shipyard and repair dock module to provide maintenance and replacement functions for the planetary system’s drones and support vessels, while larger dedicated ring stations contain additional modules to support high-volume production for transfer to other systems.

Weapons platforms

Orbital weapons platforms are widespread throughout Pelinese space, with their density increasing sharply with increasing presence of other Pelinese hardware. They range in size from simple missile-carrying, naval mine-like disposable stations to heavily armed multifunction battle stations employing long-range intra-system weaponry capable of inflicting severe damage on large naval vessels. Some larger stations also embark short-range, carrier-grade bombers and fightercraft for defensive purposes, as well as strike bombers to provide additional long-range firepower.
