The Parliament (Kosbaraans: Parlement van Kosbareland) is the legislative branch of the Federal Union of Kosbareland. It is led by the Prime Minister of Kosbareland and it is where all bills are debated and adopted to become laws. It is composed of one house, the House of Commons. It used to have an upper house, the Senate but it was abolished soon after independence in 1969.
The Parliament is responsible for the redaction, the debate and the adoption of all the laws of Kosbareland.
Members
The 276 Members of Parliament are the 276 members of the House of Commons. They hold the right to use the post-nominal letters PL for the duration of their mandate and the post-nominal letters VPL for life after the completion of their mandate.
House of Commons
Prime Minister
According to the traditional customs, the Prime Minister is the leader of the political party which has elected the most Members of Parliament. The Constitution still gives the power to the State President to nominate anyone from the House of Commons.
Speaker of the House
The Constitution also defines that the debates in the House of Commons are directed by the Speaker of the House of Commons which is a Member of Parliament that has been elected among the members.
Powers and functions
The Parliament is responsible for the redaction and approval of all laws of Kosbareland.
Parliament House
The sittings of the Parliament happen in the same building that has hosted all Parliaments sittings since the inception of the Parliament in 1842.
The Chamber of the House of Commons is where the regular sittings of the Parliament are happening.
The Chamber of the Senate is only used for ceremonial purposes, such as inaugurations of Members of Parliament, dignitaries visits, awards ceremonies and other prestigious events.
