The Lile Ulie Islands is known to be a more liberal state, though in the past 20 years, reports have shown the nation to be trending conservative. Since voter registration is required in the nation, around 48% of its voters belong to the Democratic Party, a centre-left party, 41% to the Republican Party, a centre-right, and around 11% to other parties including the Green Party, Libertarian Party, and Independent Party.

The current president of The Lile Ulie Islands is Troy Cayetano. Cayetano, previously, was the Mayor of Kailua before being elected head of state. Cayetano, a Democrat, has focused on improving the education scene, equal opportunity, and a reformed immigration process. Cayetano's Vice President, Vicky Akana, former Secretary of Labor, has prioritized her focus to safeguarding labor unions, protecting the right to work, and building a better economy on the world stage.

Cayetano has faced major political obstacles during his presidency, though, he has maintained a rather high approval rating of 55%. Cayetano was elected in a special election in November 2021. Now, in July 2022, he faces another election which would extend his term for another four years. He is currently in a runoff against Ariana Kahele, a Kailua City Councilor.

== Sports ==
Soccer and surfing are the two most popular sports in The Lile Ulie Islands. Unlike other sovereign states, The Islands refer to football as soccer. Some of the world's greatest soccer players have come from The Islands, like Palokiko, Chris Lee, and Daniella Ige.

Surfing is a traditional island sport that was named The Official Sport of The Lile Ulie Islands in 2022. Some of the world's premier surfing tournaments are located on the waters of pristine islands right here in LUI. Those include, Lānaʻihale, Pu'u, and Olawe. In Olawe, a whopping 73 foot wave is now an island record. Though, many waves in Olawe cause damage and harm to the beachfront communities there. In July 2017, one tsunami, in part of a hurricane, destroyed 13 different buildings, with eight of those being either apartments, houses, or hotels. Most of the buildings collapsed, if not, drenched on the interior and exterior with water, which resulted in the deaths of 387 people (including those at the Olawe State Beach.)
