The State Commission for Space Affairs «Pelkosmos» (Stelossian: Государственная Комиссия Космических Дел «Пелкосмос», Gosudarstvyennaya Komissiya Kosmichyeskikh Dyel «Pelkosmos»), normally referred to as Pelkosmos, is the administering entity for the Pelinese space program and state-funded civilian aerospace research under the Pelinese Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. It is responsible for operating Pelinese spaceports, developing new space technologies, satellites, launch vehicles and other space systems, funding civilian research in aerospace fields, and conducting scientific space exploration missions.

Most Pelkosmos space & rocket activities are focused on missions with clear usefulness for practical applications, such as navigation & communications satellite launches, Pacifica observation satellite launches, space weather, space environment, & atmospheric studies, and sounding rocket programs. It has also succeeded with several crewed launches into Pacifican orbit as part of the Tanager Program, as well as performed some exploratory studies on theoretical topics such as lunar colonization.

The Space Materials Operational Resilience Experiment Systems (SMORES) program is an ongoing materials science experimentation program initiated in 2007 with the goal of evaluating the effects of space environments on various materials and manufactured devices commonly employed in spacecraft. The first evaluation capsule, SMORES-I, was launched into space in 2012 and retrieved in 2018, with follow-on vehicles SMORES-II and III being retrieved in 2019 and 2023 after launch in 2014 and 2017, respectively. A fourth capsule named SMORES-L was launched in 2014 to perform 10-year testing and remains in orbit; it is expected to be retrieved in February 2025.

Relationships with other entities

Pelinese Armed Forces

Pelkosmos maintains ties with several branches of the Pelinese Armed Forces for a variety of purposes. The Royal Pelinese Space Force and the Royal Pelinese Air Force regularly share dual-use research and technology between each other, particularly as pertaining to systems such as launch vehicles, satellite technology, advanced aircraft systems, precision craft navigation & control, and rocket propulsion. The RPSF also regularly utilizes Pelkosmos launch facilities and vehicles to deploy space equipment such as military satellites.

Commercial suppliers

Pelkosmos procures purchased parts for its systems from a variety of Pelinese suppliers, including both state corporations and privately owned companies. Suppliers often construct spacecraft components up to the first-level subsystem level, with Pelkosmos personnel primarily performing project management, systems integration, and other high-level tasks.
