This is a list of notable non-vegetation species in Aurora, including non-sapient, near-sapient, and sapient species.

Sapient species

Sapient species are the peoples of Aurora that are civilized in the loose sense, capable of communicating and forming complex societies that range from nomadic tribes to organized unitary kingdoms with millions of citizens. They typically possess, at minimum, one or more cultures, the ability to create and use language or other means to communicate ideas with other individuals, and some measure of technological development such as the usage of tools. They are also capable of comprehending abstract concepts such as mathematics, as well as performing academic activities involving the acquisition and sharing of complex information such as cultural works and technological advances.

In addition to the above qualities, sapient species often exhibit some form of spirituality; they can possess souls, be created or adopted by one or more patron deities, form various types of religion, or otherwise possess a special connection to divine or other supernatural forces that non-sapient species typically lack.

Primary name Other names Type Found in Notes
Belsedori Snow harpies Semi-avian humanoid  Belsegallia
Cala halflings Moon halflings Template:Country data Calandor
Auroran humans Humanoid
Tuatha dé Satonaïa Swamp Elves, Lothlondir Elvenoid Template:Country data Emhain

Near-sapient species

Near-sapient species are in the middle ground between fully sapient beings and normal fauna. While they do not possess sufficient intelligence and communicative abilities to establish truly civilized societies, they are more capable than normal wildlife and may be able to combine technology and social structures on a more primitive level. Some species of this category may have a disputed status, where debate exists as to whether they belong to the sapient or near-sapient classification.

Primary name Other names Type Found in Notes
Tyaremaki Sea Wraiths Spirit Seas under Belsegallia The degree to which Sea Wraiths are intelligent is currently disputed among scholars and may vary significantly between individuals. Observed specimens normally exhibit, at minimum, basic abilities of communication and group coordination.

Non-sapient species

The category of non-sapient species includes varieties of wildlife that, though they may be magical, artificially created, or otherwise fantastical, are normal in the sense of being fully sub-civilizational in character. While individual species of this category may possess traits such as social structures and tool usage on a basic level, they do not combine all of the traits necessary to attain the level of near-sapience or sapience.

Primary name Other names Type Found in Notes
Four-Winged Moa Avian  Belsegallia
Auroran sky
Common aerial wildlife frequently hunted for meat and feathers; Not typically seen at altitudes below 3000m.
Lesser Wyvern Draconoid Auroran sky Aerial predators found in tall mountain ranges and other high altitude environments; smaller and somewhat more common than larger types of wyvern.
