The Krim are a species located in the Shadow Fragment, otherwise known as the northeast corner of the Colonus Pact. Krim space is directly bordered by Scytherian and Yipsid space, and diagonally borders High Divinity.
Biology and Appearance
The Krim are a roughly human-sized species with pure black skin and white glowing highlights, especially the eyes and hair. Their lungs are capable of breathing a variety of gasses with no long-term consequences and while they are biologically capable of speech, choose to communicate using light instead.
Most often they can be seen wearing pressurized suits needed to survive outside of high-pressure environments. These suits have lights running throughout them so as to enable communication, and are customizable to reflect the wearer's occupation, rank, and personality.
History
The Krim trace their roots back to roughly 50000 BBT, when a colony of BrightSpace ghosts sent to colonize realspace became caught in Krimsi's gravity and were unable to escape. Over the next several centuries the high atmospheric pressure of the planet, combined with the natural decay of their BrightSpace pockets, resulted in their bodies turning from light into matter.
From this point out, the animalistic proto-Krim would splinter into tribes and fight amongst each other in a constant state of warfare that would persist until the birth of the first Krim and the eventual creation of civility.
The history of the Krim is deeply connected with the Krimoire, also known as the Book of Lights. No outsiders know what knowledge is contained within it, as the Krim are deeply protective of this information. The heir apparent to High Lord Styss, Lord Scytheros, was murdered at the age of 23 after looking inside of it, with their body being found mutilated. It is widely speculated that the Krimoire contains some ancient secret of the Krim, or forbidden knowledge they wish to keep from outsiders. Whatever the book contains, all that is certain is that it somehow managed to rein in the war-torn species and accelerate their evolution into true Krim.
From then on, the history of the Krim has been relatively peaceful, with most aggression coming from withing the circle of politics or religion. The most recent wars to date have been the Colonus Expansion Wars (the period in which Colonus conquered its neighbors) and the Purification War, after the betrayal of the Krim by the Yipsid caused them to join the war on the loyalist side.
Society and Culture
Krim society is built on a distrust of outsiders, leading to an air of secrecy and mystery around them, but they are also known to be extremely loyal to those they trust. The Krim participate in open relationships and marriages but treat all spouses and children lovingly and with respect.
The Krim believe highly in order and community. It is not uncommon for Krim convicted of heinous crimes to be exiled to dangerous environments to serve their time, while non-Krim found to have knowingly violated Krim laws may be deported or executed depending on the severity.
