A member of the New Democratic Party of Esfalsa, Herdes was the youngest person ever elected as chancellor, taking office at the age of 35. He previously served as the Minister of Security from 2015 to 2019.
Herdes was born in Paltoroga, Esfalsa. After graduating from the University of Paltoroga in 2006, he enrolled in Goldwin Law School. In 2009, upon graduating, he received the Trenton Scholarship. He was appointed as an advisor to Chancellor Arlene Streiff in 2009, as a senior advisor in 2012, and then as Minister of Security in 2015. After announcing his intention to run for chancellor in 2018, he won the New Democratic nomination in 2019 and was elected in the general election that year.
