The Jakuri Insurgency is an ongoing conflict within the Republic of Mirad, led by the Jakuri Liberation Movement (JLM)—a militant faction advocating for the independence of Jakur. The JLM currently controls significant portions of Jakur and has expanded its influence into neighboring provinces, challenging the Miradian government’s authority in these areas. Jakur was historically a semi-autonomous region with its own distinct ethnic and cultural identity. Tensions escalated following its annexation by the Republic of Mirad, as Jakuri nationals perceived this move as a denial of their right to self-governance. The JLM emerged as a reaction to these grievances, seeking to restore Jakur's autonomy and advocating for full independence.
The Jakuri Liberation Movement leads the insurgency and has established itself as the dominant force in Jakur, where it now controls roughly three-quarters of the province. The JLM has extended its reach into Nonajema, where it occupies around a quarter of the province, and has even gained a foothold in the Jabal region. It operates as a hierarchical organization, with a centralized leadership and several regional cells conducting independent but coordinated actions.
The JLM's tactics include guerrilla warfare, ambushes, attacks on civilian infrastructure, and sabotage of government assets. The Miradian government designates the JLM as a terrorist organization, although the JLM asserts it represents the legitimate interests of the Jakuri people.
Criticism
Criticism against the JLM
The JLM has been criticized by several humanitarian organizations for its attacks on civilians and causing civil unrest, as well as allegedly committing several war crimes against the Miradi people. JLM officials have called these criticisms illegitimate as "the Illegitimate Republic of Mirad has stolen our right of independence, and we are simply fighting for it".
