Hyper Relay Threshold Gates are megastructures used by hyperlane-using societies unable to breach faster-than-light (FTL) travel threshold without leaving the effects of significantly substantial gravity wells. Utilising exotic matters, a gate can breach the threshold into a designated hyperlane target well within an obstructing gravity well, such as of a star or a planetary body of significant mass.

The gates eliminate the need for an interstellar craft to travel in sublight speed beyond gravity wells before initiating an FTL jump, which in turn save significant amounts of time and energy.
