A Hamara’s Lens is a powerful and ancient magical artifact originating from the state of Old Belsegallia and scattered across Terra Aurora by the events of the Larinata Disaster. Thirty are confirmed to have ever existed, with most being lost or destroyed; the remainder are highly sought by mages, collectors of magical artifacts, and others who know of them, whether for their historical value or for their immense magical capabilities.

Characteristics

Form

A Hamara’s Lens consists of a 30-inch tall, 5-inch diameter, faceted crystal in the approximate shape of a vesica piscis; the widest diameter of the lens is bound by a metallic ring made of a metal resembling polished silver and set with smaller red crystals. The color of the central crystal varies by its magical focusing configuration: the master lens is white, lenses from the Ring of Life are rose pink, those from the Ring of Soul are pale sky blue, and those from the Ring of Magic are lilac. The lens’ assigned position for the Ritual of Transcendence can be identified by etchings on the central binding ring. The weight of a Hamara’s Lens is approximately 12 pounds.

Function

The intended function of a Hamara’s Lens is to act as a magical focus and amplifier. In addition to acting as a near-perfectly efficient spellcasting focus when used, a properly used lens will channel its innate magical energy to increase the power of spells channeled through it by a factor of up to 50 or more. This trait allows a magic user wielding a Hamara’s Lens to cast significantly more powerful magic than normally possible while expending minimal effort.

The greater intended function of the Hamara’s Lenses was as ritual tools during the Rite of Transcendence, with their core purpose being to allow the participating mages to channel magic of enormous power for the lengths of time required.

Manufacture

The method of manufacturing a Hamara’s Lens was lost with many other Old Belsegallian magical arts during the Larinata Disaster, while in-depth examination of recovered examples is hampered by the inherent risk associated with tampering. It is known that the central crystal is an alchemically manufactured material with magical energy-manipulating properties similar to those of Witch’s Tourmaline, but with enormously higher magical permeability and innate energetic capacity.

List of artifacts

Thirty lenses are recorded as having been involved in the ritual precipitating the Larinata Disaster, including one master lens and 29 normal lenses. No further lenses are confirmed to have been manufactured based on extant records, though the consensus of modern Belsegallian scholars is that construction of one or more prototypes was highly likely.

Approximately five to ten of the lenses present at Larinata are believed by Belsegallian mages to have fractured during the Larinata Disaster based on the level of magical energy released. The fates of most other lenses present is unknown; dispersion across considerable distances and/or into inaccessible locations by either launching or teleportation are possible, and some intact stones are likely to be permanently lost.
