The Union State was a country in Cordilia that existed in modern day Clashonia between 1904 and 1922. The state was established in the aftermath of the 1904 Clashonian coup d'état that brought the Party of the Union State to power. The Union State ended when the National Republican Party took over the country and formed the Clashonian Republic in 1922, in the midst of the War of 1919. The Union State bordered Weisserstein, Arfordir, Valkyria, and Stoinia.
In 1904, the Party of the Union State overthrew the Clashonian monarchy and established the Union State, a federal semi-presidential republic. Throughout its existence, the Union State had to deal with monarchists operating from Bannarsia and the Kleinhart Jura, separatists in Transclarvia and Bernheven, and its rival the National Republican Party in Greater Clarvia. Despite the constitution stating the Union State was a multiparty democracy, the Party of the Union State quickly secured its power on state institutions, making the Union State a dominant-party state. The Union State was ruled by different factions within PVS in its existence.
In 1919, the Union State would be involved in the War of 1919. Its poor handling of the war led to its rival the NRP to take over in 1922, forming the Clashonian Republic and ending the Union State.
Name
The official name of the state was simply the Union State, in official use since 1905. A longer name, the Union State of Bannarsia, the Rongau, Vorgruntal, Clarvia, and Transclarvia (Clashonian: Verenideštaat Benneršland, da Rongaa, Vorgrejntal, Klarvie ond Transklarvie) was used briefly between 1904 and 1905, before shortened to Union State. Unofficially, the name Clashonia is also used.
Background
Since the formation of the Kingdom of Clashonia in 1742, the ducal family of Bannarsia had ruled the country as its kings.

Military
The military of the Union State consisted of the Army of the Union State (Clashonian: Armee de Verenideštaate; AVS) and Navy of the Union State (Clashonian: Mareen de Verenideštaate; MVS). At its peak in the War of 1919, the AVS and MVS combined had around 8 million personnel, or around 20% of the Union State's population.
The last units of the AVS surrendered almost a year after the fall of the Union State.
