Description
The main features of the Sedunnic coat of arms consists of a blue shield in official Sedunnic blue with the Star of Limmvasd in yellow. On top there is the people's crown. These comprise the lesser coat of arms. The greater coat of arms also features the five Brother Spears in brown and silver, and two golden oak branches the almost encircles the shield. The current design was adopted by passing the National Symbols Law in July 12, 1853, confirming the much older blazon and defining specific colour shades. For the shield the blazon is as follows:
Azure, the Star of Limmvasd Or.
And for the supporters:
Five spears tenné, one in pale and four in saltire Argent and thereon two oak branches embowed Or.
Origin
The Sedunnic coat of arms represents the consolidation of Sedunn and the mandate of the government. The word for "coat of arms" in Sedunnic is "karelhinnib", which means "defender of [the] realm", relating to the Im knights who used the shield that is featured in the coat of arms and were armed with spears. The below table provides a break-down of the elements.
Star of Limmvasd: Predating the unification of Sedunn, the Star of Limmvasd is the oldest and perhaps most iconic common Sedunnic symbol. It has its origin in old folktales about how the ancient Sedunners settled Sedunn. According to the legend, their ancestors were guided by a twinkling star that rested on the highest summits of the Limmvasd Mountain Range. The star being hollow is meant represent the twinkling. It is a common symbol representing Sedunn also on its own, e.g. it is featured on military vehicles and sport kits.
Im knight's shield: When the first Sedunnic monarchs travelled the newly unified Sedunn, they were accompanied by guards called Im knights who were equipped with with blue shields with the Star of Limmvasd. Blue is a traditional Sedunnic colour.
People's crown: The crown is given by representatives of the people to the head of the government to represent their official endorsement. It has been a symbol of democracy in Sedunn since its consolidation.
Brother spears: Sedunn was founded when the five most powerful Sedunnic chieftains (the "Brothers") met on neutral ground, symbolically sticking their spears into the dirt leaving their rivalry behind, to chose a common leader - a king. The bundle of spears represents unity among Sedunners and the mandate of the monarch to rule the common Sedunnic lands.
Oak branches: In Sedunn, the oak is a common symbol of wealth, prosperity and stability. |
Derived use
The Transsunerian coat of arms features a small field in Sedunnic blue, and along with the Karnetvorian green they officially represent the assistance the two nations provided in ending the Second Transsunerian Civil War.
