The Pelinese Union of Mechanical Engineers (Pelinese: ペリナイ機械エンジニア連合, Perinai Kikai Enjinia Rengo; Karnetvorian: Пелинский Союз Инженеров Механиков, Pelinskiy Soyuz Inzhenerov Mekhanikov) is a Pelinese professional association established in 1984 to function as a standards-setting body and professional development services provider for the practice of mechanical engineering in Pelinai. It has a membership of roughly 40,000 engineering students and practicing mechanical engineers, most of whom live and work in Pelinai.
The PUME is a member of the Pelinese All-Engineering Union, and maintains ties with a number of other Pelinese professional associations, trade associations, and trade unions.
History
Technical divisions
Activities
Classes
Online and in-person engineering classes are offered by PUME for a wide variety of subjects, including specialized engineering topics, PUME-published technical standards, Design-for-X principles such as design for manufacturability and design for maintainability, professional engineer licensing exam practice, and other topics.
Conferences
The Pelinese Union of Mechanical Engineers functions as both an organizer and a participant of a wide variety of trade conferences and conventions both in and outside of Pelinai, such as the annual Pelinese All-Industrial Convention.
Standards publishing
The primary activity of the PUME is the creation and publishing of industrial standards and specifications pertaining to mechanical engineering products, such as specifications for the classifications, dimensions, and strength properties of various fasteners, minimum surface finish standards for gas turbine generator rotors, and expected minimum vibration tolerances for various types of lock washers. As a participating member organization of the PAEU, the PUME’s technical standards are subsidized by funding from the Pelinese Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology and are required to be made freely available online.
Publications
The PUME publishes a variety of trade and research journals covering mechanical engineering topics on a monthly or bimonthly schedule. Some prominent PUME periodical works include the following:
- PSIM Journal of Mechanical Systems & Engineering (published monthly; flagship journal of the PUME)
- Journal of Hydraulic Systems (published bimonthly)
- Journal of Manufacturing (published monthly)
- Journal of Mechatronics and Control Systems (published bimonthly)
- Journal of Turbines (published bimonthly)
