The Transsunerian Defence Forces (Transsunerian: Transsunerias Vernkrafter) are the unified military forces of Transsuneria, encompassing the Army, the Coast Guard and the Defence League. They were founded in 2015, integrating Federationist resistance units and certain elements of the disbanded Krigsmakt of the Second Transsunerian Republic.
Organisation
The Transsunerian Defence Forces consist of three distinct arms: the Army, the Coast Guard, and Defence League, which all fall under the authority of the Ministry of Defence. There is no separate air force or typical navy. The all voluntary Defence Forces have an active force of about 4,400, of which about 3,600 serve in the Army and about 800 in the Coast Guard. About 10,000 serve in the paramilitary force the Defence League (Vernferbund).
The Transsunerian government counts as Commander in Chief. The government appoints a Supreme Commander over the Defence Forces, which currently is General Maximilian Romstet. The Supreme Commander oversees military training, materiel procurement and the overall deployment of the forces.
The defence of Transsuneria is coordinated with Sedunn, which has issued a guarantee of independence. Sedunn has deployed a combined arms contingent consisting of mechanised infantry, an air-defence battery, helicopters, a flight of multi-role fighters, and periodically large naval vessels and SIGINT aircraft.
Army
The Transsunerian Army (Transsunerian: Heer) has a strength of about 3,600. It fields three highly mobile mechanised infantry battalions and one support and logistics battalion which includes a unit of transport helicopters.
Coast Guard
The Transsunerian Coast Guard (Transsunerian: Kystvaakt) has a strength of about 800. It is tasked with asserting the integrity of Transsuneria's territorial waters and exclusive economic zone, performing surveillance, patrolling and policing missions. Additionally, it is equipped for mine warfare with mine laying and mine countermeasures capabilities.
The fleet includes four refitted Sedunnic Unng-class mine countermeasures vessels, which also serve as offshore patrol vessels, and eight coastal patrol vessels. The Coast Guard also operates two turboprop aircraft and a few helicopters for surveillance.
The Coast Guard uses the prefix TKVS. The Austral prefix is TCGS.
Defence League
The so-called Defence League (Transsunerian: Vernferbund) is an all voluntary paramilitary force consisting mostly of about 10,000 light infantry. Its tasks include protecting infrastructure and surveillance. The Defence League also supports the police and the rescue services, by e.g. putting out wildfires, volunteering as assistant police members, and ensuring safety at various events. The fighting capability of the force is being increased by the introduction of guided anti armour missiles and MANPADS.
Special Forces
Transsuneria has two separate special forces units. Grup Laurens Bager (GLB), named after a famed resistance commander, handles complex combat, rescue and intelligence missions. Grup Paul Oselmann (GPO) is a newly formed light seaborne unit that specialises in the protection of oil platforms and ship boarding missions.
Equipment
The equipment mostly includes Sedunnic and Karnetvorian surplus materiel.
