International relations between Huawan and Stoinia formally began in 1581 when Cristian Ghideanu and Niccolo Milechi first landed in Corinia. The region was sparsely populated and left with a power vacuum due to division between the ethnic Paeonisians and Garanians following rebellions against the Peocracy. It was in this vacuum that Stoinia pursued colonial settlements in the region and initiated trade agreements. However, changes in government brought the two nations to a head-to-head collision as relations grew more volatile. These periodic skirmishes would continue throughout history and alternate with periods of trade and commerce between the nations. Relations would ebb and flow until well into the 20th century until the historic Shai Kong Accords of 1988. Since then, the two nations have formed a constructive economic relationship, although extremist factions from both sides would prefer to return to a belligerent one.
