The Colonus Pact is a spacefaring nation located in the north-west of Sector A1-0.

Language

As there is no official spoken/written language of The Colonus Pact, any and all names are either the result of long, intensive, and yet-incomplete translation attempts, or simply attributed to Colonus by species within the territory.

The primary source of communication in the Colonus Pact is done through advanced pheromones. Some citizens are also able to communicate telepathically thanks to neural implants that connect them to the hivemind.

History

First Contact:

825 BBT

Exploratory vessels sent by the Avanti Queendom and the Mandabis Collective encountered each other in orbit of Araknis, a planet lying between the two Star Nations. Coincidentally, the Vanti body is capable of releasing and receiving the same pheromones that Mandi use to communicate, allowing for first contact and the establishment of a neutral zone.

However, within 10 years the Mandi were already violating the treaty. The Vanti queen cut diplomatic relations soon after

The Queendom Wars:

803 BBT - 779 BBT

By the year 864 BBT, all planets in the neutral zone had been seized by Queendom or Collective forces. Finally, the long-standing tensions came to a head when a Mandi Invasion force captured a Vanti system, beginning the Queendom wars.

Despite beginning their celestial Queendom centuries before the Mandi, the Vanti had neither the technology nor the coordination to defeat the Mandi in ship-to-ship warfare. The Queens advisors saw no alternative besides ground combat. Over the next 22 years, a total of roughly 200 million Vanti and 500 million Mandi died in the most brutal fighting on Colonus Soil to date.

Finally, in 779 BBT, a covert strike team introduced a deadly disease into a Mandi world, killing billions of civilians. A peace treaty was signed in orbit of Colonus Prime, a rogue planet pulled into the Colonus system by the newly-named Unifying Light.

The Signing of the Colonus Pact:

761 BBT

Almost two decades after the end of the devastating Queendom Wars, and tensions had already started up again as the two nations sought more land. In a surprising moment of Unity, High Queen Amber and Lord Selena came together to sign a formal treaty, one who's strength would soon thereafter unify the two nations into one. After much debate, it was decided that the Mandi would get their representative legislative branch, ensuring their supremacy in the House od Concord. The Vanti queen was made ruler of the Colonus Pact, tasked with supreme authority over all, albeit at a price. To pay for the needless deaths of billions, the Vanti were forced to rejected their culture, language, and identity in conformity with their new Mandi sisters.

The Purification War:

76 BBT - 64 BBT

The Great Death:

61 BBT - 58 BBT

Politics

The Colonus Pact and its subsidiary nations are governed by a Constitutional Monarchy, the head of which being the Vanti monarch.

The Legislative Branch is made up of an upper House and a lower House. The upper House, known as the House of Concord, is proportional to population and made up exclusively of members of the Colonus Pact. It seats elected officials from the Mandi Freethinkers and the Avanti Kingdom, and the High Queens from the Mandabis Collective. The lower House, known as the House of Concert, grants all of the Colonus Pact's subsidiary nations equal-representation and a chamber to address their issues. Although there is some oversight and restrictions, the Colonus Pact generally respects the House of Concert's decisions and allocates the appropriate resources to them.

There is no overarching Judicial Branch. Each planet is expected to deal with violations of the law with their own Judicial branch. Any complaints may be brought before the respective House, which may then vote to establish a Judicial Organization.

The law is upheld by the Antlions, the secret police that watches over Colonian territory with an all-seeing eye

Economy

The Colonus Pact runs on a capitalist economy. In order to help establish an economy where none existed, Lord Scytheros took the little-know Freethinkers Commerce Guild and elevated it into the Royal Trade Company. The West Mandibus Co-Operative, the Harmony Organization, and the Colonian Agricultural Alliance quickly rose to prominence following the establishment of a free market.

Military

Colonus Military Reserve:

After the Colonus Pact expanded to its current size, whereas no more territory could be gained short of purchases or war, the Houses of Concord and Concert jointly passed Resolution DE7. As per its articles, Resolution DE7 mandated the formal military training of all sentient beings living as citizens within the Colonus Pact and its territories. Military training begins once citizens reach the age of majority of their species and complete their desired amount of education. Conversely, citizens may choose to delay voluntary education until after the completion of their military training.

Citizens may be called upon to protect their home in the event of an invasion, with reinforcements from the Military and nearby Colonian planets available if needed.

The Emperor reserves the right to call upon the entire populace of Colonian in the event of an extinction war or any other threat that stands to damage Colonus in a catastrophic way. Citizens may be tasked with any number of vital jobs, and are to be rotated between them to avoid the tiring out of soldiers. If all else fails, all citizens of the Colonus Pact will be ordered to man the Colonian fleet in a last-ditch attack against the threat, or the glassing of the capital worlds of the aggressors.

Technology

Neural-Net:

In order to keep the benefits of a coordinated hive, the Mandi created a device that, when surgically implanted into the brain, could like member of the hive even when they were apart. When the Mandi unified with the Vanti, neuroscientists were able to successfully adapt the device to work on other species as well.

Later, as the population expanded, Emperor Araknis ordered the partitioning of the hivemind. The ability to deliberately section off the hivemind created a drastic increase in productivity, as well as diminishing the disorientation experienced by non-Mandi.

After the discovery of the language barrier between other species, Mandi Freethinkers used this technology as a translating tool, to limited success.

Cloak:

During the Vanti rebellion, a male scientist was able to create a cloak that could hide rebel ships from the Royal Fleet.

More than just signal suppressors, modern-day cloaks can also visibly hide ships, making surprise attacks increasingly practical.

Avanced Trackers:

To more efficiently monitor non-Colonian movements in Colonian space, Antlion developed an array of trackers to function in whatever situation agents find themselves in. A notable, although somewhat less-effective type are shield-trackers, which can stick to certain shields and send out a signal after a ship drops out from FTL travel.

Electro-Magnetic Weaponry:

The Colonus Pact makes use of kinetic weaponry on their capital ships, but they're far more known for their advanced EMPs. Because of the nature of their neural-net, Mandabis had to develop more advanced emp-hardened technology. The logical side affect was more powerful emps that could leave enemy warships open to a kamikaze run. Currently small ships are equipped with guns that can fire electro-magnetic bolts, which can travel 500 meters before dissipating. Larger ships instead fire electro-magnetic capsules that detonate on impact.

Demographics

The Colonus territory includes a range of species, two of which belong to the Colonus Pact.

Colonus Pact:

Mandi (Hive): The Mandi Hive comprises the greatest percentage of the Colonus Pact's demographics, containing roughly 24.3 trillion members or 57.7% of the population

Mandi (Freethinkers): The Mandi Freethinkers are a small group of Mandi who are born incompatible with the hivemind. Directly opposite to the Hive, Freethinkers comprise the smallest percentage of the demographic, containing roughly 2 trillion members or 4.8% of the population.

Vanti: The Vanti species make up the second highest percentage of the Colonus Pact's demographics, containing roughly 15.8 trillion members or 37.5 % of the population.
