Ikoania, officially the Independent and Sovereign United Federal Union of the Ikoanian Republics of Gralois-Setian and Cartos is a sovereign state in the southwestern corner of Bailtem is located between Limmvasd mountain range, the South Pacific Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, bordered by Ezervulge to the north, Carta-Agot to the northeast, Sedunn to the northwest and La Ascensión to the south across the strait of Saint Michael. It is characterized by an arable landscape with a mediterranean climate with mountains with a humid continental climate towards the northwestern and northeastern borders and an island known for its beautiful beaches. With a total area of 20,379 km2 and a population of about 2.5 million (as of 2020). Ikoania is a federal parliamentary republic with its capital in Gralois, the country's largest city and main cultural and commercial centre. Other major cities include Cartos, Setian, Parcles and Port Fortelo.

Around 500-200 BCE, many city-states were established around the region called Ikoania but around 1579-1735 because of the many disputes and instability happening at the time, Ezervulge used the opportunity to declare war and colonized the city-states with Parcles being the last to fall in 1735. In a war between 1884 and 1885 between Sedunn and Ezervulge, smaller sporadic riots occurred in Ikoania. The fall of Fehérvár lead to Sedunn pledging its support to the rebels in an attempt at putting additional pressure on the Ezervulgish government. At the signing of the Treaty of Kodull, many Ikoanians cheered due to a clause in the treaty in which the Ezervulgish government pledge to release Ikoania as an independent state. On 9 August 1885 Ikoania officially established itself as the Independent and Sovereign United Federal Union of the Ikoanian Republics of Gralois-Setian and Cartos.

On 20 April 1944 Former Ikoanian President Adel Rohadek ordered the military to seize the federal parliament of Ikoania staging a coup d'état and declared himself as the Emperor of the Greater Ikoanian Empire leading to the creation of the Imperial council. During his reign, he executed anyone who didn't agree with him, speaks Ezevulgish, and/or practiced religion with the St.Michael church massacre being the most prevalent example. He died on 6 December 1986 leaving no successors. The next day everyone in the Imperial council was found dead. No one knows how it happened. Former Ikoanian Chancellor Parke Tamalesse, the most senior member of the former federal parliament established the 2nd Republic and reinstated the Ikoanian constitution. He pushed for an amendment of the constitution this later became known as the Amendment of the Constitution Act of 1988.

Ikoania is a World Forum member since April 2020. It is also a founding member of the Bailtem Union, even though it is not a full member.

Today, Ikoania is a federal parliamentary republic led by a Chancellor and with a President as the head of state.

Etymology

The origin of the name Ikoania has always been disputed. There are many theories to where the name had come from, though none have been proven.

The name has been used by the merchants who traded in the 15th century to call the region.

History

Early states

There has been evidence suggesting the first city-state that was established is called "Setin" around 500-200 BCE and that there were around 10-25 city-states established around the same time. There have been theories that Setin was one of the tribes that invaded Sedunn during 520-600 AD. There are also many wars fought in the region that result in the weakening of the region.
