2021 ← Pacivision Song Contest → 2023

The Pacivision Song Contest 2022 was the 2nd edition of the Pacivision Song Contest. Following the Sedunnic victory in the 2021 contest in Südtor, Gianatla with the song "Never wanted this to end" by Illkrom Blenienn and Rila Jok, the Pacivision Executive Board (PEB) has accepted hosting bids from all countries eligible to participate. The bid for Gralois, Ikoania won the bidding phase. Organised by the PEB and the host broadcaster Ikoanian Avarez Television Broadcasting (IATB), the contest was held at the Century Arena. The final was held on the 28 February 2022. The final was presented by Ikoanian presenter Estella Casvellez, singer Marco Zarez and actress Polla Altez.

Eleven countries participated in the contest, with Arnchow, Esfalsa, the Frost Empire and the host country Ikoania participating for the first time. Eareamland, Mauquibie and New Itomorii have announced their non-participation due to several reasons.

The winner was Gianatla with the song "Onbezonnen" by Frauke Westra. Being the first time a country from Cordillia winning the contest.

Location

Century Arena, Gralois - host venue of the 2022 contest.

Bidding phase

According to the rules of the inaugural contest, the host broadcaster of the winning song would receive the first rights to host the next edition of the contest, however winning country Sedunn did decline hosting the 2022 edition of the Pacivision Song Contest. On 20 September 2021 PEB therefore launched a bidding process for hosting the Pacivision Song Contest 2022, publishing a list of criteria and requirements for the host city and venue. Interested broadcasters were to submit bids on behalf of the city through postal means, after which PEB would proceed to send all of them a bid book with more detailed requirements for the cities and broadcaster to submit their plans for review. The cities had until 26 October 2021 to draft and submit their detailed plans.

Over the following weeks many countries expressed interest in hosting the event. On 22 September 2021, on behalf of the city of Gralois, Ikoania officially announced its bid, proposing the Century Arena as a possible venue to host the event.[1] The arena normally serves as a venue for annual events, notably the live IATB TV Awards.

Until 26 October 2021, no other city or broadcaster has presented a bid book to the PEB, thus Gralois was announced as the host city of the 2022 contest on 2 November 2021.[2]

Other sites

During the event weeks a site called "Pacivision Village" was introduced in Gralois' 3rd district, where it was possible for fans and sponsors to watch performances by contest participants and local artists. The live shows were also broadcasted to it from the main venue.

Production

The Pacivision Song Contest 2022 was produced by the Ikoanian public broadcaster Ikoanian Avarez Television Broadcasting (IATB). The Ikoanian government allocated around 4 million TSP-$ as part of the budget needed to host the event, while the state of Gralois contributed around 5 million TSP-$ in total. The preliminary total budget for the show was 7.4 million TSP-$. Later the Gianlucian government and the music streaming service Audit would also add another 2.5 million TSP-$ to the budget. Participation fees were once again not levied.

Visual and Stage design

Inspired by solar panels and modeled after the theme "Reach for the STARS", it was designed by artist and graphic designer Alcro Nehar working with stage designer Nevear Poletez. The Stage design is inspired by minimalistic shapes that can be seen when looking at the visual presentation.

Presenters

Estella Casvellez, Marco Zarez and Polla Altez, presenters of the 2022 contest

Estella Casvellez, Marco Zarez and Polla Altez were the hosts of the 2022 contest with Polla Altez also being the host for the green room.

Casvellez is known for her role as a presenter in the Ikoanian version of the hit TV gameshow Countdown and as being able to speak Alman fluently thus filling the role of the Alman speaking presenter. Zarez is known for his pop song "Ulterior Motives" which hit the top of the Ikoanian Music Tops charts for 2017 and was the winner of the 2018 IATB Music Award. Altez is known for her role in many roles in Ikoanian movies and has won the Avarez twice in a row, the only person to ever do so.

Format

Allocation draw

The draw determining the running-order in which the participating countries may present their songs to the audience was held on 13 February 2022 in the city hall of Gralois. The countries and their starting positions were drawn by two of the hosts of the event, Estella Casvelez and Marco Zarez, from two separate bowls. The process was supervised by the executive supervisor of the Pacivision Song Contest Ytti, the head of broadcaster IATB, Opan Avarez, and the mayor of Gralois, Arneslo Valpelez.[3]

Graphic mistakes

During the presenters listing the show's running order, the graphics switched Sedunn and Gianatla which draws 06 and 07 respectively. The mistake was corrected by the commentators and the recap later that evening showed the correct running order.
