The current president of The Lile Ulie Islands is [[Troy Cayetano]]. Cayetano, previously, was the Mayor of Kailua before being elected head of state. Cayetano, a Democrat, has focused on improving the education scene, equal opportunity, and a reformed immigration process. Cayetano's Vice President, Vicky Akana, former Secretary of Labor, has prioritized her focus to safeguarding labor unions, protecting the right to work, and building a better economy on the world stage.

Cayetano has faced major political obstacles during his presidency, though, he has maintained a rather high approval rating of 55%. Cayetano was elected in a special election in November 2021. Now, in July 2022, he faces another election which would extend his term for another four years. He is currently in a runoff against Ariana Kahele, a Kailua City Councilor.

Soccer and surfing are the two most popular sports in The Lile Ulie Islands. Unlike other sovereign states, The Islands refer to football as soccer. Some of the world's greatest soccer players have come from The Islands, like Palokiko, Chris Lee, and Daniella Ige.

Surfing is a traditional island sport that was named The Official Sport of The Lile Ulie Islands in 2022. Some of the world's premier surfing tournaments are located on the waters of pristine islands right here in LUI. Those include, Lānaʻihale, Pu'u, and Olawe. In Olawe, a whopping 73 foot wave is now an island record. Though, many waves in Olawe cause damage and harm to the beachfront communities there. In July 2017, one tsunami, in part of a hurricane, destroyed 13 different buildings, with eight of those being either apartments, houses, or hotels. Most of the buildings collapsed, if not, drenched on the interior and exterior with water, which resulted in the deaths of 387 people (including those at the Olawe State Beach.)

Tourism is the largest industry (by garnered revenue) in The Lile Ulie Islands. Many tourists spend days sitting at beaches in the sun, watching the blue water crash onto shore. However, there have been many incidents and safety concerns for beaches, especially on the island of Molokini.

====July 2017 Olawe State Beach Tsunami Tragedy====
|national_motto = ""Maluhia -- he ano alakai.""
In July of 2017, only a few days away of when the deadly hurricane, Ike, struck, large waves were building up on the shore. Due to the beauty sun, there were many at Olawe State Beach and did not know of the severe waves. Once a large wave was forming in the distance, lifeguards blew their whistles so people could evacuate. Though, for those in the water, a riptide was quickly pulling them farther in the ocean, and for those on shore, escaping also wasn't that easy. The recorded 72'-foot wave demolished 13 buildings and killed 387 people in the area. Out of the 387 who perished, 168 of them died on scene. Local hospitals in the island of Olawe didn't have enough space for all of those suffering, so others had to be lifted to other islands, though before they could be put on life support, many of them died.

The Mayor of Olawe, Tina Tyran, declared a State of Emergency in the city, and Dave Dackell, the County Executive of Olawe County declared a State of Emergency in the county. Then president George Fukumoto was heavily criticized for his actions regarding the crisis. Fukumoto, a Republican, was vacationing on one of his private islands
