The Common Republic of Coletisia is a spacefaring nation located in the extreme north of Sector A1-0. Most of its territory is largely uninhabited since colonization efforts are just starting. The nation is pacifist and posesses no military forces. The Republic as a whole has mastered the technology of Subatomic fabrication, which is majorly relied upon to produce consumer goods and materials. (OOC, this is a WIP)

Etymology

History

Natural history

The origins of the Common Republic of Colestia reach back into its inhabitants' natural history, which is one rarely seen in sentient species in the Sector. The Colestians' world underwent a mass extinction around 10 million BBT, which is commonly know as The Great Eruption, where a flip in the magnetosphere of SIlvalia, their home planet, caused increased seismic and volcanic activity. This led to a short burst of temperature worldwide, which increased the average by as much as 3°C or 5,4°F, driving around 40% of Silvalia's biodiversity to extinction. This warming was however short lived, as the volcanic gases and ashes quickly blocked the sunlight from their home star and caused an ice age, lasting almost 2 my, which wiped out 85% of the remaining species on Silvalia. After the ice age, only small, generalist species of plants, animals and fungi alike remained.

But evolution acted quickly, and the large amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere a global warming effect and the evolution of massive tree-like organisms many times larger than any tree seen on earth. These organisms spread quickly and created a gigantic rainforest ecosystem that covers most of the planet. In this ecosystem, whatever species survived the mass extinction, thrived and diversified into countless forms and species.

Among these, two were especially interesting. One were the Colestians - arboreal sapient plantoids that collected in large tribes for skill sharing and protection. The other were the Ventari - another tree dwelling sapient species, but this one was carnivorous, specialized to hunt and feed on the Colestians, and couldn't sustain themselves on other species.

Pre-modern history and The Genesis War

The first marks of civilization created by the Colestians or the Ventari dates back to around 17 500 BBT, when the first buildings and structures were built. While most civilizations develop because of agriculture, eusocialism or tribalism, the sapient species had a different incentive.

Both the Colestians and the Ventari developed and progressed civilisation for the same one reason, and that is to wage war. The early history of both of these species is stained by a bloody military conflict, not for resources, land, or control, but for survival. Since the Colestians were prey to the Ventari, their relationship of constant fighting or chasing carried over into the civilized era. The Colestians' nation back then was the High Kingdom of Colestia, ruled by the royal bloodline known as the Trevarians.

They were in charge of the nation for its entire pre-modern history. The first of their lineage swayed masses by the prospect of fighting back the Ventari, instead of running away. And they retained that vision for their entire period of rule, to the point where it developed into an obsession to exterminate the enemy. This mostly resonated withing the majority of the public in the first 2500 years of the nation's existence, which granted it stability and balance, as well as manpower to wage the seemingly never-ending war, much later named "The Genesis War"

Modern history, The People's Revolution and The Day Of Extinction

In the beginning of Colestia's modern history, around 15 029 BBT, people started to question the morality of the war, and along with promises in the technology of genetic engineering in both Colestia and the Grand Empire of Ventaria, the prospect of feeding the Ventari without hunting became feasible. This sparked protests and revults against the Trevarian royalty, which culminated in a full-on coup against the High King.

The coup known as the People's Revolution took place in 15 000 BBT, as a culmination of the frustration and anger of the Colestian population at the High King. At its start, in the early morning, the revolutionaries, counting around 3 million, stormed military warehouses and stole military equipment, then proceeded to launch an attack at the royal palace. Upon hearing about the revolution, the High King, who was fanatic about the war, knowing he didn't have much time left, gave an order to launch a massive nuclear attach at the Grand Empire of Ventaria, to fulfill his last wish - end the Ventari.

The coup ended up being successful, as the High King was overthrown and later killed. But it was a bitter sweet moment, because as for the King's last order, the Ventari were no more. After the event and a week of mourning, new reforms were made in the nation, to make sure something like this would never happen again. and so, the old government was abolished, and the new one was established, which still remains to this day. (OOC: check the politics section for that. What do you mean it's empty? Just give it time. And it worked! It's not empty anymore. Told ya').The nation was also renamed to "Common Republic of Colestia". A new national holiday was established, called the Day of honor, in which people mourn every soldier and hero, both Colestian and Ventari, who died defending their respective nation, as well as the Ventari that died during the Day of Extinction.

Since the Colestian's reason to build Civilization up to this point was to defend against the Ventari, the Colestians had no real goal afterward but to better everyone's lives. Because of that, they then focused mostly on research and automatization, as to raise the living standards as much as possible, to the point where since somewhere around 14 856 BBT, work became optional because of the BUI, even if one wanted to live a comfortable life.

Post-modern history

The post-modern history of the Republic begins in 14 913, when the first extraterrestrial colony was founded on Silvalia's moon. At that point, the Republic was incredibly stable economically and socially. After that, progress in technology and colonization grew exponentially, and eventually, with the invention of terraformation, most of Colestia's home system was colonized, with the exception of 1 planet and a few moons, which were used for automated mining operations and core extractions. Eventually, the Republic developed new technologies, FTL, Subatomic fabrication being the most important ones. These inventions sparked a new phase of colonization, with the Colestian's automated workers building a Dyson sphere around a nearby star, as well as a Bishop ring between Silvalia and the nearest system. That system was eventually reached and its colonization started, and is predicted to be truly finished by 5 ABT.

By that point, Colestia was stable, its citizens happy and fulfilled. It was a utopic existence. That made the empire develop slowly, but eventually, around 15 BBT, a major Colonization project was launched, which aimed to expand the nation to star systems further away from SIlvalia.

And the rest... is history.

Astrography

Politics

The common republic is ruled by a government, whose power is divided between many thousands of individuals. It is based on the Colestian Councils, which have the final say on all of the nation's matters in their respective fields. A council meeting can be called by at least 50% of the councilors of said Council, as long as they announce it at least 3 days in advance. During a meeting, the Councilors debate over one certain topic and then, at the end of the meeting, hold a vote to make a decision on that matter if necessary. Voting usually occurs at meetings discussing matters such as changing, creating or abolishing laws, starting national projects, etc.

The Councils are composed of 1000 Councilors each, 300 of which are Lesser Councilors and 1 of which is the Grand Councilor. The Grand Councilor alone has the ability to arrange a Council meeting in 4 hours in advance instead of 3 days, as well as to call for a 30 minute break in a meeting at any time except during the voting. They are also usually responsible for announcing the results of the meeting to the public, despite the events always being live streamed on multiple platforms online and on television. The Lesser Councilors' role is very similar to the one of the regular Councilors, with the exception of not being able to vote during High importance class meetings.

A Council meeting can be of high or low importance class. By default, meetings are low importance class, but at the beginning of a meeting, a 75% majority vote of the Councilors or the decision of the Grand Councilor can make it a high importance class meeting. During votes in High importance class meetings, the Lesser Councilors do not get to vote at the end. Instead, an online referendum is held among the public, lasting for 6 hours, during which the meeting is suspended but the Councilors have to stay ready for attendance. After that, the Council meeting is resumed and the Vote can take place, with the votes of the Lesser Councilors being replaced by a proportional value from the referendum results.

Councilors are elected in an STV voting system for 2 year cadencies. The Councilors, Lesser Councilors and Grand Councilors are elected separately from each other, and anyone is free to launch a campaign and run for a place in any of the Councils, as long as they have the appropriate level of education in the Council's particular field.

The Colestian Councils are:

- The Council of Citizens, which creates the most fundamental laws about legality and punishment of matters. It also has the final say on whether or not a project suggested by another council will be carried out or not. The Grand Councilor of Citizens is widely considered to be the most powerful and influencial polytical figure in the nation, with them being responsible for - among other things - distributing Colestia's budget, employing people for governmental events such as voting security, and representing the government as a whole in media and in person.

- The Council of Law, which is responsible for checking if laws made by other Councils are compatible with the constitution, and has the full right to deny a law from coming online on a 75% majority vote. Any law created by any other Council must pass the jugdement of the Council of Law before being introduced.

- The Council of Technology, which is responsible for technological and Architectural development within Colestia. It is this council's duty to design any major projects the nation takes on, such as the construction of Ventari's Pride or the recent Colonization program. This Council also operates the industrial workings of Colestia.

- The Council of Economy, which is responsible for managing monetary operations, trade and stocks within the nation. It also runs the Company Office, which manages the private-ran companies and brands within Colestia.

- The Council of Entertainment and Art, which is responsible for running public-ran television channels, radio channels and social media, as well as the creation of public-ran centers of art and culture, such as galleries and cinemas. This Council is also responsible for running the Museums of Colestia.

- The Council of Education, which operates the Education facilities of Colestia and determines the learning program for students in public-ran and private-ran schools, universities and colleges.
