The flag of the Free State was the national flag and ensign of the Free State. It had a black circle centred on a white background and was made as an "inverted" pirate flag symbolising abolishing piracy as the Free State was established. White represented peace on the ocean and the black circle represented Government Island. The flag was in use from 1771 when the Free Sate was established until the annexation by Karnetvor in 1950.
