The Island Premier League (IPL), is a men's professional soccer league sanctioned by the Lile Ulie Islands Soccer Federation. The league represents the sport's highest level in The Lile Ulie Islands. The league is composed of 15 teams -- all in Lile Ulian territory -- with the addition of two more teams planned in 2025. The league is headquartered in the Lile Ulian capital of Kailua.

History

In 1992, the IPL was established, founded by David Henry, Jennifer Vargas, and Troy Kau. The first season wasn't played until 1994. The league served as a successor to the National Soccer League (NSL), a now-defunct league which had eight teams. The IPL served as the first major soccer league in the Lile Ulie Islands. Bill Brown, a prominent businessman, bought four of the NSL clubs from all stakeholders and negotiated with NSL leaders in an effort to buy the full league. After buying the whole league, Brown left the NSL in the hands of Troy Kau, who eventually had the league file for bankruptcy after hard financial times in 1989.

With Lile Ulian soccer fans angry about the lack of a prominent league in the Islands, they petitioned for The Lile Ulie Islands Soccer Federation to create one. President of the federation, David Henry, brought together one of his trusted advisors, Jennifer Vargas, and Troy Kau, the last owner of the NSL. Together they formed the Island Premier League which was announced in 1992.

However, IPL teams lacked substantial talent. Their players were mostly comprised of either young players who had limited skill or no experience, or older players with notable experience however their health and stamina trolled and haunted their ability to regularly play without getting injured. To the result of this, many fans were angry at the federation for not establishing an exciting league to watch.

IPL's leadership team decided to bring in young Cadisian manager Rubén Cala as the President of the league. He quickly garnered revenue for each team (as they were under the ownership of the league), and allowed for each team to purchase better players. He then, after each team had the adequate financial support, established a private ownership system of each team, which handed even more money to the league. In 1999, three years after Cala took over as league president, Calohiño, a Cadisian striker, joined Waimea FC and over the course of six years, scored 185 goals with the team. It was a moment marking Cala's success as president.

The league kept gaining more money, and eventually in 2002, under the supervision of Cala, expanded from eight teams to twelve. Cala himself decided to buy Liverpool, and later resigned as the league's leader.

In 2007, President Antonio Moores decided to expand the league to have sixteen teams. In 2013, Chivas FC were disbanded from the league. The team's owners and head staff attempted to sue the league however Chivas failed to make enough revenue to pay the players as they were in the process of joining another, smaller league. Later in the year, the team filed for bankruptcy after the league player's union threatened to have all of Chivas' players demand a either release or loan from the team.

In 2019, Bill Brown, who back in 1989 bought the National Soccer League, attempted to recreate Chivas FC and petition for it to be allowed back into the league. He also met with league leaders to officially get rid of conferences, an attempt which was successful.
