The party's ideologies have been described as consisting of totalitarianism, dirigisme, supremacism and militarism. The party was formed in 1982.

Central to the Socialist Nationalist Party's ideology is ideas of Nicholas and Great British superiority compared to other countries.

History

Formation and Alexander Devereux: 1982-1991

The Socialist Nationalist Party was formed in July 1982 from a group of smaller parties that shared their beliefs of xenophobia and authoritarianism. The party then rapidly grew as other similar parties joined, bringing many followers with them. The party later gradually shifted towards left-wing economic views. The first leader of the party was Alexander Devereux. Devereux was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Nicholas and Great British Army and like vast majority of other Socialist Nationalist members and supporters, was bitterly opposed to the Treaty of Virje, which saw parts of Nicholas and Great Britain get given to Aberstopia and West Romordia, despite the latter being a territory of Nicholas and Great Britain at the time, and reparations paid to Aberstopia.

Around the late 1980s the party gradually shifted towards more left-wing economic policies, believing that a strong government must have strong control over the market in order to control the nation.

In 1988, Devereux published a book, called 'The Doctrine of Supremacy', which laid out his beliefs of how a strong, authoritarian government with large amounts of control over the market can rebuild Nicholas and Great Britain into a supreme global power. This book became an influential source of reference for future leaders of the Socialist Nationalist Party.

In 1991, Devereux was murdered. The murderer identified themselves as working for the Nicholas and Great British Communist Party. After a police investigation, it was concluded that the leading members of the Communist Party had hired the assailant to murder Devereux with the reason being that the Socialist Nationalist Party had become rivals of the Communist Party.

Relations with the NGBSS: 1983-present

Since, the First Nicholas and Great British Civil war, which ended in December 1981, The leadership of the Nicholas and Great British Secret Service (NGBSS), began to want power over the country. Many high ranking officials within the NGBSS believed that the country would only rebuild and be strong under a strong government that had the same views as they did. Rather than performing a coup d'état, which would have been overt and subject to lots of resistance, the NGBSS came up with a plan to find or form a party that shared their political views, keep in contact with that party and try to make that party win a general election. The Socialist Nationalist Party shared much of the NGBSS' political views so the NGBSS chose them. The NGBSS and the most senior members of the Socialist Nationalist Party have been closely in touch with each other since.

Growth in popularity: 1995-2009

Whilst the Socialist Nationalist Party had been a well known and widely supported party in Nicholas and Great Britain since the mid 1980s, it had never been close to competing to become the largest party in the country until the late 1990s. This growth in popularity was a result of the war between Nicholas and Great Britain and Aberstopia. Nicholas and Great Britain suffered many economic downturns due to the war, which many felt was pointless due to it starting over a small border dispute that resulted in military action after a miscommunication on one side which led to the war. This led to growing distrust and less faith in the government. In the 2004 general election, the Socialist Nationalist Party became the largest opposition party, overtaking Labour after multiple scandals regarding senior Labour members during the war with Aberstopia. Furthermore, as Nicholas and Great Britain was still feeling the effects of the First Civil war, many people in Nicholas and Great Britain began to lose trust in the current system as multiple different governments could not solve the economic problems Nicholas and Great Britain was facing. Many people turned to more extreme parties and the Socialist Nationalist Party was one of the largest extreme parties at the time. In 2008, Nicholas McGregor became the new leader of the party. In his campaigns, McGregor blamed the current state of Nicholas and Great Britain on foreign countries (particularly Romordia), democracy, and corruption. McGregor's promises to remove corruption and foreign intervention in Nicholas and Great Britain and return Nicholas and Great Britain to be a strong and powerful nation garnered much support amongst the already increasingly xenophobic population.

Rise to power: 2009-2022

In the 2009 general election, the Socialist Nationalist Party won for the first time in the party's history, however not with a majority. The party formed a coalition with the Nationalist Party, a smaller party which had similar beliefs with the Socialist Nationalists, and a confidence and supply agreement with the NGB First Party, a right wing nationalist party. The party introduced new laws such as the Employment Rights Act and the Equality Act, which outlawed discrimination to someone based off their age, sex, sexual orientation and marital status. On behalf of the confidence and supply agreement with the NGB First Party, the Socialist Nationalist Party claimed they would attempt to privatise the state-owned Britolasian Rail. However, this was never done. Later, the NGBSS helped them in their attempt to remove the House of Lords and abolish the monarchy. This would cause the Second Nicholas and Great British Civil War that would last until 2011. During the war, the NGBSS claimed that they had diffused multiple large bombs in the Palace of Westminster, which could have killed everyone in the building had they gone off. They then claimed that investigations showed that the people responsible for this attempted terror attack were a group of the leaders of the opposition parties. The Socialist Nationalist Party quickly passed an act which stated that if a political party is deemed a significant threat to national security, that party can be outlawed and the ruling party can appoint unelected MPs in their place until the next general election. This sparked fury amongst the opposition, who vehemently denied being involved in the attempted bombing of parliament. However, this was welcomed by supporters of the Socialist Nationalist Party, who believed that it meant a stronger government and therefore a stronger nation. The Socialist Nationalist Party outlawed so many parties that by 2014, they occupied over 90% of the seats in the House of Commons. In 2014, parliament passed an act which outlawed all political parties other than the Socialist Nationalist Party, claiming that their very existence is a "threat to the security and strength of the nation." Since 2015, all officers in the military, police force and NGBSS must be a member of the Socialist Nationalist Party.

Abolishment: January-May 2022

On the 31st of December 2021, many members of the Socialist Nationalist Party, military and police forces forced Supreme Leader Nicholas McGregor and many other senior members of the government to step down from their positions. This day became known as the New Year's Eve insurrection Then, many of the people who had been involved in 'atrocities', such as Romordian genocide, which included members of the government and military, were put on trial for their crimes against humanity in the Nicholasgrad trials. Many were found guilty and sentenced to prison. The Socialist Nationalist Party was abolished and largely replaced by the United Democratic Party.

Return to power: May 2022-present

After the Third Civil war, in which McGregor and many others including those who were convicted at the Nicholasgrad trials fought to regain control over the country, most of the changes to laws made by the government after the New Year's Eve insurrection were reversed and the Socialist Nationalist Party went into power once again.

Whilst efforts have been made by the party to increase the amount of renewable energy generated, the party has done relatively little to stop global warming compared to other governments in other countries.
