The Sugovian Defense Forces (Sugovian: Sogowishe Weermaht), or simply the Weermaht (Defense Forces), are the national armed forces of the Republic of Sugovia. The Sugovian Defense Forces includes the Army (Sugovian: Landweer, literally "defense of the country"), the Navy (Sugovian: Marine), the Air Force (Sugovian: Luftstreitkraft), and the Territorial Army (Sugovian: Gebietsarmee). In 2022, it comprises nearly 200,000 active personnel.
Formed in 1935 following the unification of Sugovia on the 28th of August, the force was originally consisted of three branches, the Joint Army, the Royal Armies, and the Navy. In 1938, large-scale restructuring occurred within the military. The Joint Army and Royal Armies were merged into a single branch, the Army and the Air Service of both the Army and the Navy were merged into a single independent branch, the Air Force. The restructuring eliminated the provincial troops belonging to the monarchies in favor of a much more centralized military force. A fourth branch was added in 1985, known as the Territorial Army (Sugovian: Gebietsarmee), which acts as the country's organized military reserve force. This branch was added to also help organize pro-government militias in Heckel during the Elbonian conflict.
