Days are optional, allowing

{{Date range|year1=1996|month1=Apr|year2=2002|month2=Jun}}

to yield

({{{year}}}-{{{month}}}-{{{day}}}) ({{{year}}}-{{{month}}}-{{{day}}})April 1996 – June 2002.
