The Shaft
10th Delegate of the South Pacific
In office
20 July 2004 – 20 February 2005
Preceded byLadyRebels
Succeeded byCaer Rialis

The Shaft, also known as htz3, was Delegate of the South Pacific from 20 July 2004 to 20 February 2005.

The Shaft was founded in late October 2003, presumably in the South Pacific, and quickly joined the regional forums.[1] In the March 2004 General Elections, after two unsuccessful runs, The Shaft became Secretary of Foreign Affairs.[2][3] He was re-elected in the May elections.[4] From March 2004, The Shaft held the second highest endorsement count in the South Pacific.[5] LadyRebels resigned as delegate on 20 July 2004 and appointed The Shaft as her successor.[6]

On September 26 2004, a game glitch caused many of The Shaft's endorsements to not be counted, and Temptation Isle briefly became delegate. While South Pacificans feared a repeat of The XYZ Affair, Temptation Isle did not seize power and game administrators reversed the effects of the glitch later that day.[7]

In October, The Shaft's delegacy was challenged by Malak al Hrak.[8] However, Malak al Hrak was discovered to be a puppet of Savage Lands Reloaded, a member of the Pacific who had previously led an unendorsement campaign against LadyRebels and been generally hostile to the South Pacific.[9] With Malak al Hrak's endorsement count rapidly increasing, the nation was ejected on 14 October 2004.[10]

The Shaft stepped down as delegate on 9 February 2005.[11] His chosen successor, Caer Rialis, took the in-game delegacy on 20 February.[12]

The Shaft was a member of the Coalition for Open Government, the South Pacific's first political party.[13]
