Jan Saats (born 27 February 1965 in Selpe, Eflad) is an Efladian diplomat and former Professor of International Relations and Political Economy, who served as the tenth Speaker of the World Forum since 1 August 2023 until 9 July 2024. He was a professor at Tehnograd University from 2000 until 2022. From April 2022 to his appointment as the Efladian Ambassador to the World Forum he served as special counsel to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the cabinet Tirng.

Early Life and Education

Saats was born on 27 February 1965 in Selpe. His father was a carpenter and led a small shop, his mother was an elementary school teacher. He attended the Martin-Beck-Hauptschule and later Gymnasium, where he completed his Große Matura. He studied international relations and philosophy, entering a fast-track programme in his second year of studies, completing them after only 5 years with a doctorate. He was awarded the Prize of the Herai-Dofa-Society for his extraordinary research in international relations. In 2000 he received a call to the Tehnograd University for a professorship. He remained in that position until 2022, establishing the department of Political Economy.

Diplomatic Career

After Hanna Tirng was elected Prime Minister Dr. Frank Tæren became new foreign minister. He called Saats to become his Special Counsellor. Saats was already involved with politics earlier, often being an expert counsellor to the foreign affairs committee. He attended a teaching position at the diplomatic academy.

Saats left his professorship and teaching positions after assuming office. He was portrayed by colleagues as an extremely professional, pragmatic and astute. He is credited for warming Eflads foreign relations and helping establish Eflad as a global player.

In November 2022 he was appointed as Ambassador to the World Forum after his predecessor, Dr. Lina Frere, was recalled from her position due to a scandalous speech in the Assembly. He was elected Speaker of the World Forum in August 2023, becoming the tenth Speaker and first Efladian to be elected. He was succeeded in July 2024 by Andreus Savvidis from UPRAN.
