The Sedunnic Navy (Sedunnic: Sedunnō Seiftasstlē) is the naval warfare branch of the Sedunnic Armed Forces. Founded in 121 BC, it is one of the oldest continuously serving navies in the world and the second oldest branch of the Sedunnic Armed Forces after the Army. It started as a coastal defence force and transformed into a global force during the age of discovery and age of sail. Through the 17th and 19th centuries it competed with other traditional maritime powers such as the Austral Empire, Huawan and Karnetvor among others for maritime supremacy, specialising in the protection of trade routes and escort. During the 20th century following the rapid spread of industrialisation, many other nations caught up on the traditional maritime powers, greatly expanding their navies. During the Great War, in which the Sedunnic Navy participated in numerous engagements, Sedunn still had among the largest navies in the world. However, during the latter half of the Cold War it was surpassed numerically by many navies. The modern Sedunnic Navy focuses on expeditionary warfare and is considered among the world's premier blue-water navies.
As of December 2023, the Sedunnic navy operates 73 commissioned ships, including 2 aircraft carriers, 6 amphibious warfare ships, 16 destroyers, 8 frigates, 12 corvettes, 4 ballistic missile submarines, 11 attack submarines, 2 submarine tenders, 10 mine countermeasures vessels and 40 various auxiliary and support vessels excluding smaller boats for a total of 113 vessels. The current aircraft carrier class is among the world's largest naval vessels with a displacement of over 100,000 long tons. The Sedunnic navy maintains a fleet of about 126 VOT 14 S Hotvemm carrier-based fighters and about 177 other aircraft, of which many are carrier-based. The Navy provides transport for the Sedunnic Marine Corps. It is also a part of Sedunn's nuclear triad, with its ballistic missile submarines and fighter aircraft maintaining a nuclear deterrent. The total personnel strength is about 70,000, of which are 54,000 active-duty, 11,000 are part-time, and 5,000 are in the ready reserve.
Mission
The main mission of Sedunnic Navy is to train, equip and organise to deter and prevent a seaborne invasion of Sedunnic territory. It shall also provide power projection means to protect Sedunn's interests abroad and to support its allies. Furthermore it shall provide security globally to vital maritime trade routes and enforce the law of freedom of navigation and be ready to provide humanitarian aid. The mission mandates significant amphibious and replenishment capabilities beyond the Navy's home region. The Navy thus operates a significant amount of large surface combatants and oceanic auxiliaries and is therefore classified as a blue-water navy.
Tasks such as customs, maritime security and policing in Sedunnic territorial waters and exclusive economic zone are conducted by the Sedunnic Coast Guard which is not part of the Armed Forces, being a component of the Sedunnic Police.
History
Foundation
Early unified Sedunn did not operate a navy of its own but relied instead on the naval militias of the individual constituent city states for the the defence of the whole nation. However, towards the end of the 2nd century BC, following several conflicts between the sate and some city states concerning trade monopolies, the government deemed it necessary to centralise command and strip the city states of their individual militias. Historical records mention there being a Duric (i.e. Sedunnic) ship for the first time in 121 BC and that that its inaugural voyage started 10 January. This is considered the official birth and anniversary of the Sedunnic Navy.
The first centuries of this unified navy are not well recorded. The long periods of peace and stability for Sedunn meant there was few major engagements. There are mentions of the navy defending the capital and the island of Deri against northern invaders. There are also mentions of its ships being used for exploration and trade.

Organisation
The Sedunnic government is the commander-in-chief of the Sedunnic Armed Forces and by extension the Sedunnic Navy, though the Ministry of Defence cannot directly command the military. Command of the Navy is delegated by the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces to the Naval Command under a Chief of Navy who is the most senior naval officer, a four-star admiral. Recruitment, procurement and training are delegated to the four naval components: the Surface Warfare Forces, the Submarine Forces, the Auxiliary Forces and the Naval Air Service each under the supervision of an Inspector, a three-star admiral.
The navy cooperates extensively with the Army's anti-ship missile battalions and the Air Force for coastal defence.
Operating forces
The Sedunnic Navy maintains four theatre commands: West (the South Pacific Ocean sub-Capricorn and Brevero Sea), Mediterranean, North (roughly the Rainbow Sea and the southern areas of the North Pacific Ocean), and "Trans-Pacific" (encompassing all areas outside the South Pacific). The theatre commands do not maintain fixed operational formations but receive pooled ships from ship type-based flotillas to form temporary taskforces. The taskforces can be formed quickly and prolonged without prior notification. As of January 2024, these are the named active taskforces:

- 2339 "Paksarr Vosallu" – Carrier strike group, patrolling trade lanes in theatre West: 1 aircraft carrier (the Paksarr Vosallu), 3 destroyers, one frigate, submarines and auxiliaries
- 242 "Epptryn" – Asserting territorial integrity, Sea of Epptryn: 1 frigate, 4 corvettes
Flotillas
The flotillas of the Sedunnic Navy operate similarly to regiments in the Army: they train, equip and maintain units that are combined with units from other flotillas to form higher-order formations. The following flotillas of the Surface Warfare and Submarine components were active in 2023:

Mobile bases
The flotillas that maintain smaller vessels such as corvettes, mine countermeasures vessels and attack submarines operate units that can set up small temporary bases outside the normal area that provide basic sustainment and repair. The are called mobile base units and can transport themselves on open water in Sedunn and are airmobile to some degree. They typically cooperate with amphibious battalions for security.
Shore establishments
Several shore establishments exist that support missions, maintain ships, train personnel and conduct research and intelligence. The Naval Command is based in the Akskamm Complex while the Armed Forces Joint Staffs are based in Essela.
Bases
There are six major naval bases in use, four in Mainland Sedunn, one in the Remetull Archipelago and one in Transsuneria. Additionally there are smaller bases in Sedunn called stations.
- Essela: Sometimes called the military capital of Sedunn, it is home to several Armed Forces commands, army, air force and naval units. Aircraft carriers and many of the transport vessels are based there, as well as the Amphibious Division and larger auxiliary vessels. It is located 15 km north-west of the capital of Sedunn, Grovne.
- Ullenst: maintains some of the destroyers and the frigates. Sedunn's largest shipyard is located in Ullenst.
- Akskamm Complex: Underground naval facilities and regular docks clustered along the west coast of the Letted peninsula between Ilosred and Troma. It is home to most of the destroyers and submarines as well as the main Naval Command.
- Durivv: supports all operations in the Mediterranean Sea as well as the sea of Epptryn. Currently the most important surface combatants stationed there are corvettes. Durivv is the third largest port city in Sedunn after Grovne.
- Gafsred: supports all operations in the South Pacific Ocean. Gafsred and neighbouring Tarvem have among the largest ports of the islands in the ocean.
- Floodport: supports operations in the northern areas of the South Pacific Ocean and also hosts Transsunerian and other CE forces.
Personnel
The Sedunnic Navy has about 54,000 active, 11,000 part-time and 5,000 ready reserve military personnel for a total of 70,000. The civilian personnel is over 50,000.
Ranks
The ranks of the four service branches of the Sedunnic Armed Forces have been largely harmonised. They use the same symbology but differ in names.

Surface Warfare Forces
Aircraft carriers
The Sedunnic Navy was among the first to use aircraft carriers. During the Great War a total of 39 aircraft-launching capable ships of various size were in use. Today the Sedunnic Navy has two Paksarr Vosallu-class aircraft carriers that are the largest and most expensive Sedunnic naval ships ever built. Configured for CATOBAR, it carries up to 62 VOT 14 S naval strike fighters from the Naval Air Service or VOT 14 D strike fighters from Air Force and additional fixed wing aircraft and helicopters for a total of about 90 aircraft. Alongside the amphibious warfare ships and escorts, the aircraft carriers are instrumental to Sedunn's power projection ability.
Amphibious warfare
The Sedunnic Navy provides an extensive transport, sea-lift and landing support capacity mainly for the Marine Corps. The Aemmd-class amphibious assault ship, of which Sedunn has two, typically form the core in marine strike groups, supporting both amphibious landing craft as well as rotary wing aircraft. They are often mistaken for aircraft carriers due to their large flight decks. The two amphibious transport docks of the Noslenravad-class are a the successors to the two Ullenst-class dock landing ships whose retirement was cancelled in 2019. The two ship classes are similar in having small helicopter landing decks and a well deck that can launch both landing craft and amphibious vehicles, but the amphibious transport docks also have hangar facilities. Aside from warfare, these ships are often deployed on humanitarian aid missions.
Escort and surface attack
While destroyers and frigates traditionally were used exclusively for escort of aircraft carriers, battleships and cruisers that were designed for surface attack, advances in missile technology has fused these two roles. The Sedunnic Navy has 16 Setrusop-class destroyers that both have an extensive arsenal of anti-air and anti-ship missiles and cruise missiles depending on load-out. They also have extensive submarine hunting capabilities. There are also eight Hevv Delltienn-class frigates that are often considered destroyers abroad due to their size. These are also capable of anti-aircraft and anti-missile warfare but not against ballistic missiles. They tend to be used more in surface attack roles and typically do not perform submarine hunting. Both ship types are often used in patrolling missions, alone or in small groups.
Coastal defence
While most other surface combatants are designed for open oceans, Sedunn has two archipelagic areas: the south coast with the Sea of Epptryn and the Remetulls. For their defence the Sedunnic Navy operate the Flered- and Jorles-class corvettes of which there are eight and six ships respectively. These are highly manoeuvrable in littorals and are designed to replenish and reload almost anywhere with the support of the mobile base units. The two corvette classes both have anti-ship missiles and anti-submarine capabilities but the newer Flered-class also has surface-to-air missiles. Ships of this class have also been used for ambush and intelligence missions due to their extreme stealth capabilities.
Mine countermeasure vessels
A fleet of ten Sifgvi-class mine countermeasures vessels (MCV) are in service with the Sedunnic Navy. The hull design is shared with the Flered-class corvettes giving the MCVs stealth capabilities. In addition to ship-bound systems, the Sifgvi-class carries several types of drones for minehunting. It can also operate in an offshore patrol role.
