The Remetull Islands (Sedunnic: Remetullnesslē, pronounced ['reːm.eːt̪ʉl̪.n̪esle]), also known informally as the Remetulls, are a Sedunnic region and archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, in the Central Islands. They are westernmost territory of Sedunn at 1,200 kilometres (744 miles) west of Mainland Sedunn. The population was 1,665,248 in 2019 with 284,784 living in the largest city and region capital Tarvem.
The archipelago consists of six main islands and several other small islands. From largest to smallest in area: Pieless, Akuess, Sevvskaimm, Lurrm Benn-ness, Ninn Benn-ness and Farness. The largest urban cities Tarvem, Gafsred and Ybe'fle are all located on Pieless.
The archipelago was uninhabited until Sedunners discovered and settled it in about 680 BC shortly after the unification of the mainland. The name means "Five Day Islands" and refers to the amount of time one of the early explorers allegedly needed to cross the sea and reach the archipelago. The Remetull Islands became a hub for continued Sedunnic exploration of the seas and eventually a significant node in the cross-Pacific trade network.
The Remetull Islands have a humid subtropical climate (Cfa) characterized by hot and humid summers with frequent thunderstorms, and foggy, damp and chilly winters with sudden bursts of frost and snow. At higher altitudes, the climate is characterised by continental types (Dfc, Dfb/Dsc, Dsb) with cooler summers and cold winters with frequent snow. Typically the daily average high temperature is 26-30°C and the low temperatures around 20°C during the summer. During the winter the daily temperature ranges from around 3-10°C. at higher altitudes the temperature varies more.
The economy of the Remetull Islands is primarily based on tourism, shipping, agriculture and petrochemical refinement. The fishing industry used to be a major contributor, but it declined in the latter half of the 20th century due to overfishing.
The Remetull Islands have ever since the age of sail been important militarily. Sedunn has historically projected its naval power in the South Pacific Ocean from there, and maintains a significant naval and aerial presence to this day.
