The Colonus Pact is a spacefaring nation located in the north-west of Sector A1-0.

History

First Contact:

825 BBT

In the cold void of space, sparks collided. The true tale of how the two great queendoms met has been lost to time, but no one denies the blood spilt that day. One battle led to the greatest feud in Colonian history.

One battle led to the start of the strongest unity known to the sector.

The Queendom Wars:

803 BBT - 779 BBT

While first blood had long since frozen over, tensions became heated. Thus began the great race, a quest to stake a claim in the universe before the other. Thus began the Queendom Wars.

For the first time, the Vanti Queendom had it's nose bloodied. Despite colonizing the stars far before the Mandi, the Vanti's tech simply couldn't compete with the Mandi's overwhelming numbers. So, sacrifices had to be made. While the fleets pulled back for a massive overhauling, the sons and husbands were sent in to shake the hive. The Mandi hated nothing more than intruders on their planets, and what were the lives of males compared to the success of the Queendom?

Despite heavy loses, the plan stopped the Mandi in their tracks, leading to a stalemate.

The Signing of the Colonus Pact:

761 BBT

Two decades later, and history was preparing to repeat itself. No matter where the turned, the Vanti and Mandi found space becoming increasingly claustrophobic. Not wanting more blood, the Vanti Queendom and Mandabis Collective struck an agreement. A costly one.

For her role as Empress of the Pact, the queen of the Mandi threw aside their language and culture with blatant disregard. The people didn't need a cultural identity, what they needed was her. And, to sweeten the pot, the Mandi were granted Avantos as a farming planet. The Vanti capital now rotated around the Mandi.

The Vanti didn't take too kindly to that.

Zalain's Revolution:

610 BBT - 606 BBT

It had been a hundred and fifty years since the great embarrassment, and the Butcher Queen had long since succumbed to death. Her daughter, the new Empress of the Pact, was eager to lead her people to a glorious new age.

But history wouldn't play out that way.

Zalain, eldest son of the former queen, and older brother to the current queen, became disillusioned by his thankless service and practical slave labor on Avantos. The line in the sand was finally crossed when the military was dispatched to eradicate rebelling soldiers in a neighboring farm quadrant. Zalain had had enough. Using his expertise from fighting in the war, Zalain organized the fragmented resistance into a true resistance. After that, it was only a matter of time before the crown landed on Zalain's head.

The Purification War:

76 BBT - 64 BBT

Since it's very foundation, the Colonus Pact has been a model of cooperation. But old wounds survive even the longest lives. Early in 76 BBT, a council of rebel Mandi declared independence and broke off from Colonus, bringing the Ytharans with them. In one fell swoop, the entirety of the Mandi Collective was threatened, and it was clear who they'd side with. With that timebomb about to go off, High Lord Araknis called in some friends of his own.

The Ythri and Scytherians had been rivals for as long as they could remember. The humans pushed into the top of Ytharan space while the Vanti and Mandi loyalists pushed into the rebel's side.

After many great battles, none of which will ever escape the whispers of Colonus's archives, High Lord Araknis had won. He levied fierce reparations on the Mandi, but greater was the fate of the Ytharans. In their attempts to survive, they had gambled on the Mandi holding out for longer. Their tactics destroyed the climate of their planet. And that, was a fate worse than death.

The Great Death:

61 BBT - 58 BBT

Karma wasn't done with the Mandi. A plague swept through some of their outlying worlds, resulting in more 30 trillion deaths (more than in the entirety of the Purification War). The Great Death was the straw that broke the back of the Mandi Collective, and allowed for the true rise of the Vanti.

Government

The Head of Colonus:

The Colonus Pact is led by members of the Vanti royal family who rule with supreme authority. At the time of the High Lord's death, the chosen heir, typically the eldest child, ascends to the throne as the new High Lord of Colonus.

Whilst the High Lord has the authority to act at their own discretion, most abide by the Royal Senate as a sign of respect towards the Mandi (and their military and industrial power).

The Royal Senate:

The Royal senate is the second highest authority, only second to the High Lord themself. The Royal Senate is made up of high-ranking Mandi queens, lesser Vanti lords, and Mandi governors. The Royal Senate is part of the legislative branch and is the highest authority in the judicial branch. All amendments to the law must be accepted by the High Lord, but judicial interpretation of the law (within reason) laws solely within the judicial branch

The Council of Sub-Governors:

The Council of Sub-Governors is the third highest authority, although its power is sometimes undermined by the individual Mandi queens, governors, and Vanti lords ruling over it's member territories. The Council of Sub-Governors is made up of the leaders of the Colonus Pact's conquered territories. It deals with legislative matters not pertaining to Colonus Pact interests, or that are better dealt with "locally." The Council of Sub-Governors does not handle legal matters, as those are settled by planet.

Military

Bullet Ants:

The Bullet Ants are the standing military of the Royal Senate, acting only upon its authority. Bullet Ants are the jaw of the Collective and Kingdom, protectors of the territories, and honored among the dead.

Once service was restricted to the Mandi, but advancements of the neural net have since opened it up to other species. However, the Mandi spirit of warfare has survived into the present era. Many ships still carry swarms of ram fighters, albeit modified to serve purposes besides certain death.

Antlions:

The Antlions are the secret police of The Colonus Pact, responsible for maintaining stability and order. Many of its members were formerly in the Colonian Spycorps, but there's a strong Ytharan and Scytherian interest in the organization, to the point that it's become a new area of competition between the rival territories. The Antlions serve the judicial branch, with Father Time serving as its director.

The Royal Fleets:

Comprised of the only most loyal soldiers of the Colonus Pact, the Royal Fleets contain the best and brightest, as well as the most cutting-edge technology in the empire. Each of the high Vanti Nobles, the Emperor/Empress of the Colonus Pact, the members of the Council of Queens, and the High Queen of Mandabis have their own fleet. Each fleet contains several warships, and a Capital "Orb" ship capable of moving and firing in any direction at a moment's notice.

The Drone Fleet:

To test the capability of Hexadecimal to protect Colonus in the event of an invasion, and as an alternative to the devastating implications of the Colonus Military Reserve, High Lord Ghelios, Empress before High Lord Araknis, entrusted the AI with a remote fleet. Despite high hopes and promising results, neither Lord Ghelios nor the Royal Senate were convinced of Hexadecimal's "undying loyalty" and never expanded the fleet beyond its initial capacity.

Colonus Military Reserve:

After the Colonus Pact expanded to its current size, whereas no more territory could be gained short of purchases or war, the Royal Senate and Council of Sub-Governors jointly passed Resolution DE7. As per its articles, Resolution DE7 mandated the formal military training of all sapient beings living as citizens within the Colonus Pact and its territories. Military training begins once citizens reach the age of majority of their species and complete their desired amount of education. Conversely, citizens may choose to delay voluntary education until after the completion of their military training.

Citizens may be called upon to protect their home in the event of an invasion, with reinforcements from the Military and nearby Colonian planets available if needed.

The High Lord reserves the right to call upon the entire populace of Colonian in the event of an extinction war or any other threat that stands to damage Colonus in a catastrophic way. Citizens may be tasked with any number of vital jobs and are to be rotated between them to avoid the tiring out of soldiers. If all else fails, all citizens of the Colonus Pact will be ordered to man a force of all Colonian fleets in a last-ditch attack against the threat, or the glassing of the capital worlds of the aggressors.

Technology

Neural-Net:

In order to keep the benefits of a coordinated hive, the Mandi created a device that, when surgically implanted into the brain, could like member of the hive even when they were apart. When the Mandi unified with the Vanti, neuroscientists were able to successfully adapt the device to work on other species as well.

Later, as the population expanded, High Lord Araknis ordered the partitioning of the hivemind. The ability to deliberately section off the hivemind created a drastic increase in productivity, as well as diminishing the disorientation experienced by non-Mandi.

After the discovery of the language barrier between other species, Mandi Freethinkers used this technology as a translating tool, to limited success.

Hexadecimal (Colonian Super AI):

Hexadecimal is the Super AI of the Colonus Pact and resides in a Dyson Sphere on the east side of the Colons Pact. Rather than being trained off the minds of the best and brightest, Hexadecimal was trained off of volunteers who went through advanced perception training, such as identifying the correct hexadecimal of colors. To this end, they hoped to create an AI that maintained its core intelligence, but was able to perceive the world more closely to biologicals, and therefore (theoretically) acts more in line with biologicals.

Father Time (Colonian Smart AI):

Father Time is the "son" of Hexadecimal, and an AI on a smaller intellectual scale that his "parent". He can serve far more specialized roles than Hexadecimal, and has a much more human personality. Additionally, he can take the form of a hologram or pilot a robotic body. Father Time is the Antlion Director and a Admiral in the Drone Fleet.

Cloak:

During the Vanti rebellion, a male scientist was able to create a cloak that could hide rebel ships from the Queendom Fleet.

More than just signal suppressors, modern-day cloaks can also visibly hide ships, making surprise attacks increasingly practical.

Avanced Trackers:

To more efficiently monitor non-Colonian movements in Colonian space, the Antlions developed an array of trackers to function in whatever situation agents find themselves in. A notable, although somewhat less-effective type are shield-trackers, which can stick to certain shields and send out a signal after a ship drops out from FTL travel.

Advanced Electric-Disablement Technology:

The Colonus Pact makes use of standard weaponry on their capital ships, but they're far more known for their advanced EMPs. Because of the nature of their neural-net, Mandabis had to develop more advanced emp-hardened technology. The logical side effect was more powerful emps that could leave enemy warships open to fighter squadrons and warship attacks. Currently small ships are equipped with guns that can fire electro-magnetic bolts, which can travel 800 meters before dissipating. Larger ships instead fire electro-magnetic capsules that detonate on impact or remote triggering.

Demographics

The Colonus territory includes a range of species, two of which belong to the Colonus Pact.

Colonus Pact:

Mandi (Hive): The Mandi Hive comprises the greatest percentage of the Colonus Pact's demographics, containing roughly 24.3 trillion members or 57.7% of the population

Mandi (Freethinkers): The Mandi Freethinkers are a small group of Mandi who are born incompatible with the hivemind. Directly opposite to the Hive, Freethinkers comprise the smallest percentage of the demographic, containing roughly 2 trillion members or 4.8% of the population.

Vanti: The Vanti species make up the second highest percentage of the Colonus Pact's demographics, containing roughly 15.8 trillion members or 37.5 % of the population.

Humans (Colonus Pact):

Ytharans: 968 Billion
