BrightSpace is an alternate dimension maintaining calculable connection points with Sector A1-0

History

BrightSpace was first discovered in 68 BBT when a BrightSpace anomaly was observed within Araknis's central star.

7 years later after the dimension's discovery, The Colonus Pact had a first contact situation with the Galactyan Empire during the first test of the BrightSpace drive, with which travel to and from BrightSpace is possible.

Overview

Properties

In BrightSpace, everything (such as matter, energy, and void), except dark energy exists as light. Anything brought into BrightSpace will be quickly turned to light unless protected by a dark energy shield. Holes in the sheild will result in a slowed down transformation.

Life

As of 0 ABT, no traditional forms of life were confirmed to exist

As early as 4 ABT, life was theorized to exist within BrightSpace

In BrightSpace, all life exists as light. Interestingly, all forms of BrightSpace life, known as BrightSpace Ghosts, have shown evidence of at least human-level intelligence. Despite this, they seem to have specific roles that they will stick to as closely as possible.

Entering BrightSpace

Currently, there are only two known methods of transitioning between real space and BrightSpace, and vice versa

Stable Anomaly

If a Star Nation can learn to open stable BrightSpace anomalies in real space, ships would be able to enter and exit BrightSpace regardless of what speed they're travelling at. Theoretically, these stable anomalies would also be able to exist in-atmosphere, and with the right infrastructure could be used as a quick method of transportation. However, stable anomalies come with an inherent risk of "naturalizing", especially when there are several stable anomalies in close proximity with each other. In 18 ABT, there was a significant naturalization event that halted the advancement of BrightSpace technology for several years.

Light Shearing

Light shearing is the main method of entering and exiting BrightSpace employed by the Colonus Pact. When a BrightSpace drive is enabled and attached to an object that has reached a high enough velocity, it can force its way into BrightSpace. In this way, the BrightSpace drive can be considered a crude instrument, and the spark-like light that gives Light Shearing its name is a direct result of this.

Naturalization

A naturalization event involves the destabilization, and in cases of multiple anomalies, merging of a stable BrightSpace anomaly. A naturalization event is always accompanied by the arrival of no less than three BrightSpace Ghosts into real space, and often results in the imminent closing of said anomaly. The chances of a naturalization event raise exponentially when there are multiple small anomalies within visible range of each other, or multiple Planet-Eater anomalies within a singular solar system.

The threat posed by invading BrightSpace Ghosts is directly correlated to the size of the naturalized wormhole.

As of 28 ABT, current findings suggest that naturalized anomalies that surpass an unknown size threshold are unable to naturally close. Researchers were able to observe groups of specialized BrightSpace Ghosts pulling debris and detritus into the the wormhole. When moving the ship closer to one of these groups, the creatures displayed a change in behavior that suggests their being territorial.

BrightSpace Ghosts

BrightSpace Ghosts are the native, and "native" lifeforms found within the bounds of BrightSpace. Their existence has put into question all assumption as to the nature of BrightSpace, and implies the existence of celestial objects and the "building blocks of life".

BrightSpace Ghosts hold a special connection with BrightSpace, which is both their origin and their source of life. Although they seem to be comprised of multiple different species, due to their observed co-operation and unclear means of life, they are all classified as "specialized" BrightSpace Ghosts.

Beyond appearance, there are two known types of BrightSpace Ghosts.

Native BrightSpace Ghosts

Native BrightSpace Ghosts originate from BrightSpace and are a light-based from of life. While inside of BrightSpace they are indistinguishable from the veil of light. Outside of BrightSpace, Ghosts maintain their existence with a sort of "reality bubble" that can be popped to destroy the ghost. The easiest way to break this bubble is to increase the size of the ghost via "feeding" it with energy, matter, etc...

Reborn BrightSpace Ghosts

Reborn BrightSpace Ghosts are a form of life even stranger than Native ghosts themselves. Infact, most of the Reborn BrightSpace ghosts started out as abiotic materials. More horrifying are the ghosts made from sentient life, namely the crews of ships who's dark energy shielding failed while travelling though BrightSpace. Reborn Ghosts are indistinguishable from normal Ghosts, with the exception of their reversion back into the energy, matter, etc... that they originally were. The remains of formerly-biological ghosts have been deemed "disturbing" by most witnesses, and should be dealt with quickly.
