Constantinople is a planet of historical significance in the Core.

Located close to the capital, Daonlathas, Constantinople belongs to the “First Colonies”, those planets who were first settled in the first wave of colonization. Not only that, it was the first planet in this category to be populated.

History

At first, Constantinople was settled for agricultural reasons, as the capital became ever more populated. However, today it is known as a manufacturing and metropolitan hub, serving industries from manufacture to finance. Due to its historical and cultural ties, plus increasing urbanization, this planet is affectionately called “Little Daonlathas” by Core inhabitants.

Constantinople is also gifted on musical tradition, as the early culture here emphasized it. Popularly known for their artists in the Core and in The Rim, some call it the “Music Factory” in these regions.

Geography

Constantinople is similar to Earth, only a smidge hotter. It is dotted with freshwater lakes and oceans, as salt unnaturally does not occur in this spheroid, thus, in the old days, making it a perfect freshwater exporter to the capital. It was even called the capital’s “water bottle”. But, as urbanization continues (the city of Byzantium alone covers 20% of the planet’s total area), all shipments have been banned, as Constantinople seeks to preserve and recycle its water reserves. If Constantinople continues expanding, it might ironically start to depend on water imports to meet its needs.

The fertility of the soil, however, is average, thus pushing Ryccia to look for other, more agriculturally productive colonies. However, it was not abandoned, as space colonization was harder back then, and they wanted territory too.

Planetary Behaviour and Characteristics

Constantinople has a rotation of 26 hours, forcing locals to either rely on the Imperial standard, or use their planet’s hours instead.

Constantinople’s orbit is 373 days, forcing locals to rely on the Imperial standard, usually. But, since it was only a bit isolated by the technology of before and the calendar change is not that drastic, Constantinopolians might use their local standard too, mostly to keep track of the seasons and such.

Constantinople does contain a lot of oxygen in its atmosphere, but it also contains hydrogen, fluorine, helium and carbon. Due to its reactive nature, fluorine does attract a lot of atoms, but since it is found in such scarce quantities, water is possible in abundant numbers.

Constantinople is 1.00003x times bigger than the Earth, technically making it a Super Earth.

Satellites

Constantinople has a satellite, but it is so tiny that it is not seen by the naked eye. It is a tiny oval-shaped body named Little Tear, as it is believed that the locals, when stargazing, thought it resembled a tear.
