Mandalore is a planet of historical significance in The Rim.

Legendary for the ancient Mandalorian Empire and the capital and origin for the Mandalorian warrior culture, Mandalore has been a historical planet since millenia.

History

Mandalore was founded by mutinous Imperial soldiers and officers, who looked down upon the “softness” of the Emperor at the time. Wishing to create a new “martial, disciplined” society, proud of a warrior tradition.

Over time, Mandalore colonized twenty planets around it, who now form the State of Mandalore, a locally sovereign association of planets. As the Ryccian Empire expanded, it engaged the Mandalorian Empire to conquer its territory. The Ryccians were astonished when Mandalore defeated them in their first war, resulting in the Treaty of Constantinople, which demanded reparations from the Ryccian Empire. Seeing weakness, Mandalore invaded nine years later. In the second war, Mandalore almost overwhelmed the Ryccian Empire, even managing to capture some planets in the Core, a feat that has never been done since by a foreign power. The Ryccians launched a brutal counter-offensive, and the Mandalorians were defeated. The Treaty of Alsain resulted in the reduction of the Mandalorian Empire into a rump state, only holding Mandalore proper. The Mandalorian Commonwealth, as it was forced to be called, incited the Mandalorians to revolt, nearly routing the Empire once more. The Ryccian Empire held on regardless, and they conquered Mandalore with a sadistic fury. Since then, the Mandalorians never revolted in a large scale, albeit the Ryccians just left them alone to prevent an uprising and ruled through allied local leaders.

The Mandalorian clans would continue to survive, providing elite soldiers for the Imperial Army. Their units survive today as the Imperial Mandalorian Army, an army completely made up of Mandalorian recruits. Due to their elite status, they are some of the highest-paid troops in the Empire, and were, historically, at the frontlines of Ryccian conquests.

When the Democratic Revolution finally came, Mandalorian space revolted, but this was crushed initially. It was only when the primary rebellion reached The Rim that they rose up once more, allowing the revolutionaries to win easy victories in these planets (a.k.a. the rebellion swept the floor with the Imperial military there). Moreover, the Imperial Mandalorian Army defected near-entirely to the rebellion, dealing a major blow to the autocratic forces.

Since freedom arrived, Mandalore was granted an enormous amount of autonomy. Self-rule in Mandalore had existed with the Ryccian puppets, but this was their first true taste of self-government in thousands of years. These planets organized themselves into the State of Mandalore, with Mandalore the planet at its center. Unlike most of Ryccia, the ancient Mandalorian system for statecraft has been partially resurrected, with clans and other traditional structures playing an important role in the politics of the Mandalorians. Their “police force”, the Mandalorian Security Forces, is the most armed police force in the entire country, something which has upset some Ryccian politicians over the centuries. The MSF is highly-trained and well-equipped, with some even saying that it could defeat regulars from the Imperial Army itself, but that remains speculation. This has led to calls to forcibly disband the MSF from these politicians, but the government has refused, presumably in order to not risk a war with the lethal Mandalorian forces.

The Mandalorian economy is based on arms manufacturing, military industries, mining, agriculture, vehicle and starship manufacturing and finance. The famous company MandalMotors is found here, producing vehicles and starships. It dominates Mandalorian space and is a fierce competitor in the northeastern Rim, but is otherwise a rare purchase outside these areas. Those who buy from this company outside these regions are usually Mandalorian expats and Mandophiles, but the Imperial Navy is known to engage in business with them for warship construction. They are, reportedly, one of the best builders in quality that the Navy contracts.

Geography

Mandalore is an Earth-like planet and holds various biomes. Among these are its forests, jungles, deserts and grass plains. The north of the planet is characteristic for seeing significant snowfall and bitter cold temperatures. The north is also known to have dense forests, with the native Veshok tree growing in large quantities.

Mandalore has vast iron and construction material reserves. The state actually owns all mines under the Mandalorian Mining Company, as it is wary of non-Mandalorians owning “critical resources”.

Planetary Behaviour and Characteristics

Mandalore has a rotation of 19 hours. Unlike normal worlds, the Imperial standard is unheard of, with locals only relying on Mandalorian time.

Mandalore’s orbit is 366 days. Again, the natives do not use the Imperial standard, instead making use of the Mandalorian calendar.

Mandalore’s atmosphere is also composed of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, helium, nitrogen, and trace amounts of methane and clouride.

Mandalore is 0.73x times the size of Earth.

Satellites

Mandalore has two satellites, Concordia and Beskar. Due to Concordia being a habitable moon with its own native population, it is actually an independent entity, even holding a seat in the Imperial Senate like any other planet. Beskar, however, is uninhabitable, with its only purpose being a mining centre for a special type of iron called Beskar iron, which is nearly indestructible. Beskar is under the jurisdiction of the planet Mandalore.
