Elected Chair

The Haughtherlands

The March 2022 Chair of the Assembly election was an election held in the South Pacific from 14‒22 march 2022 to elect a new Chair of the Assembly following the resignation of incumbent anjo. The Assembly's presiding office was contested by LFP and The Haughtherlands, the latter of whom ultimately triumphed with over 70% of the vote.

Background

Elections for Chair of the Assembly are to take place at least every four months, with a snap election instantly triggered if the position of Chair becomes vacant.

Incumbent anjo, who was serving his second term as Chair, resigned the office on the 14th of March, 2022, on the 200th day of his total tenure, citing a shifted real-life situation that rendered him unable to fulfil his duties as Chair.[1]

Consequently, a snap election was triggered, with anjo's deputy The Haughtherlands assuming the role of Acting Chair for the transition period.

Electoral System

The Chair is elected in a single round of voting, with the system used being approval voting. On their ballots, voters are to list any and all candidates they approve of, with no regard to any preference between them; alternatively, they may vote to Re-Open Nominations. The single candidate with the most approvals wins the election, provided that they have received an effective approval rate of at least 50%. If no candidate has received enough approval, or the Re-Open Nominations option has received the most votes, then the election is to restart.

The candidacy declarations period would last five days, with which the campaigning period would wholly coincide; after those, a three-day voting period would start.[2]

Candidates

The two candidates running were Acting Chair The Haughtherlands and LFP; Quebecshire declined his nomination.[2]
