Tarnese (Tarnese: Târnesc) is one of the more dominant languages on Bailtem. The language derives from shepherd tribes in Tarnia in the north of Bailtem. Some tribes migrated southwards and dispersed the Tarnese language over the continent. Tarnese may also refer to the larger family group as the migrating tribes held their original language close. Commonly the different pronunciations are called speeches instead of dialects or even separate languages. One of the most well-known speeches is Siranian (Tarnese: Șirănesc) due to emerging Stoinian influences around the South Pacific.

A portion of the Tarnian shepherd tribes in north Bailtem traversed across the Rainbow Islands, approximately 800 years ago. They've arrived in northern Cordilia, initially forming Terelia. The tribes would develop a variant of Tarnese more distinct than that of their homeland due to neighboring cultural influences. Being foreign tribesmen, situated around powerful nations with their own long cultural history and language, the Terelians would often be subject to various raids, sometimes invasions and occupations.

This terrain was not suitable for a lot of Terelians, leading to a significant portion of them deciding to move southwards through Cordilia. It was due to their shepherd lifestyle that they've managed to use the steep mountains and avoid combat with other nations, mostly going unnoticed. By the time they've reached , the migrants of Terelia have grown accustomed to a more nomadic lifestyle.
