LadyRebels was an early Delegate of the South Pacific for two terms. Her first term lasted from 19 July to 31 October 2003 and her second term from 23 December 2003 to 20 July 2004. She is today celebrated in Independence Day for refusing to fly the flag of Atlantic Central Command over the South Pacific.

Early career

LadyRebels began her career in the West Pacific. Her nation may have been founded 19 April 2003.[1] She joined West Pacifican efforts to unseat The Fathoms Below but was immediately ejected.[2] She again joined the South Pacific during the delegacy of Garylandia and aided in the efforts to elect Gatren delegate, recruited by her sister Desert Rose.[3] She gathered approximately 105 endorsements in her first day.[4]

First delegacy

On 19 July 2003, Gatren was ejected from the UN (now WA). As LadyRebels had the highest endorsement count, she became delegate of the South Pacific at the next game update.[5]

During her delegacy, Harkinnen repeatedly attempted to coup and was eventually tried for treason, with the region voting for Harkinnen to be banned.[6]

LadyRebels is the first recorded delegate to allow a forum vote to determine the South Pacific's World Assembly vote (then UN).[7] She began the long association of the South Pacific with lampshades, wearing a lampshade for the first time on 17 August 2003.[8] She also began the tradition of electing a Craziest Person, which she won multiple times.[9]

On 31 October 2003, LadyRebels stepped down, appointing THE MATT- DUCK as the next delegate.[10]

Atlantic Central Command

LadyRebels was a member of the Atlantic Central Command, an early raider group. At the time she took the delegacy she was a Lieutenant. and was responsible for training.[11][12] By mid-August she was a Captain and Chief of Training.[13] LadyRebels was a candidate to become Supreme Commander of the ACC but lost to Pilmour by one vote.[14]

On multiple occasions LadyRebels refused orders to fly the flag of the ACC over the South Pacific.[15] She also refused orders to use the South Pacific as a recruiting base for the ACC.[16] This caused tension with Pilmour, Supreme Leader of the ACC, who continued to refer to the South Pacific as an ACC stronghold and to recruit on the RMB despite LadyRebels' resistance.[17][18] On 21 August 2003 she resigned from the ACC.[19] She left the following statement:

Do to orders that I can and will not follow as of today, know that I resign my commision with the ACC, and know this, the South Pacific is and will remain free, and if you try to take us by force you will find out just how strong we really are in our stance on this, the South Pacific is not an Alliance to any Armed forces and with the help of friends and everyone eles we will not be forced into something that we do not want, I am sorry for this but you pushed my hand far enough, so good bye and good luck with everything that you hope for the ACC, but you do not understand, I will not call the South Pacific a Atlantic stronghold and I will not fly the flag of the ACC over my nation, therefore over the Region at this time, take care and have fun one and all, and do not push the issue in the South Pacific, we will fight back.[20]

Due to this situation, Pilmour was stripped of his ranks in a vote of no confidence by the members of the ACC.[21][22] The incident is today enshrined in the Cultural Act as Independence Day, celebrated on 20 July to mark the end of UCR control over the South Pacific.

Between delegacies

LadyRebels was Secretary of Intelligence from December 2003 until the start of her second delegacy.[23][24]

Second delegacy

On 22 December 2003, THE MATT- DUCK stepped down as delegate, appointing LadyRebels as his successor.[25] She reached a height of 527 endorsements in January 2004.[26]

LadyRebels stepped down on 20 July 2004, and was succeeded by The Shaft.[27]

Flag controversy

LadyRebels' original flag, made by a friend shortly after she joined the game, displayed a Venus symbol over a confederate flag with the colours darkened and stars removed.[28] She was frequently criticized for use of the Confederate flag,[29][30] though she intended it to symbolize rebellion rather than support for the Confederacy.[31] In January 2004, Francos Spain and Savage Lands Reloaded attempted to run an unendorsement campaign against LadyRebels, evoking her flag as a racist symbol.[32][33] Following this, a heated discussion was held in the forums. LadyRebels held a forum vote on if she should change her flag; 76% of voters voted no.[34] On February 5 2004, LadyRebels changed her flag to the South Pacific flag designed by Tsunamy.[35] As at the time regions did not have their own flags, this was possibly the first time the flag of the South Pacific was flown over the region itself.

Later career

From February 2005 LadyRebels was an undersecretary in the Department of Intelligence.[36] She ran for the position of Secretary of Intelligence in the March 2005 elections, but lost to Goddessness by 6% of the vote.[37] After tensions in the June elections, she asked for her forum account to be deleted and was ejected from the South Pacific in June 2005.[38][39]

LadyRebels returned to the South Pacific in January 2011, though did not become involved again until the 2011 Devonitians coup. During the coup, LadyRebels ran the forum thread where potential delegate candidates could campaign.[40] She became the editor of SPINN in late May[41] and was again voted Craziest Person in TSP in the June 2011 General Elections.[42] She ran in the August 2011 delegate elections but lost to Belschaft. Her nation still resides in the South Pacific.
