The United States of Izaakia is the largest nation in the Keyli continent, and has 2 overseas territories, with a total Area of 324,935km^2 north of the 70th parallel (Izaakia claims all land south of the 70th parallel (15,500,000km2) these claims are disputed). The population of Izaakia is 96 million Million, mostly concentrated on the northern coast of Keyli and the coasts of La Montagne and Brödmark, with large population centres in the capital Izaakston (5 Million), Port Vent (9 Million), Hopstown (7 Million) and New Mako (14 million).
The Izaakian political system is officially a Constitutional Monarchy, with Empress Astrid Iceborn remaining head of state, however she now has no constitutional powers or rights outside the right to consult and be Informed. There is a democratically elected federal government led by Prime Minister Valkyrie Mountbatten with devolved governments in each of the 3 nations and the New Mako-Izaakston conurbation . Economically the nation of Izaakia is highly developed with a relatively high manufacturing output, led by the furniture producer Izea, the technology firm Taiga and all terrain car manufacturer Ice Shark. Outside of the manufacturing sector, Izaakia takes advantage of its location along shipping lanes between the Cordilian Sea and the Brevelo Sea, with New Mako being a global shipping centre, there is also a large environmental tourism sector. The nations of Brödmark and La Montagne are not developed as highly as Izaakia, however they do have successful economies in agriculture, tourism, mining(particular la montane), finance, manufacturing and arms production.
Etymology
Izaakia is named after the old Montacian word for freedom, Izkän. This name was adopted after the Imperial Family, Elites and Loyal Polytheists escaped from the rising tide of Christianity in La Montagne and Brödmark in 16th Century.
History
Prehistory
Very little is known about the prehistoric origins of the Izaakian people, they first emerged from the la Montagne region. Prehistoric bones and weapons suggest a highly violent culture, however the relative good health is shown in the bones by large structure. There are stone circles that align with the sun and the moon, however the true nature of these has been lost to history. The most famous stone circle, the Montacian Foundation circle, it is 8000 years old and sits atop the la Montagne mountain and is the center peace of the old imperial capital La Citadelle.
Antiquity
The first recorded history of the Montacian people that would later become the izaakians is not from the Montacians, but nearby coastal peoples. In around 1400 BCE a mysterious Sea People began to raid, pillage and rape along the Near Western coast of Bailtem. The ancient city states and nations had never encountered these people, or the language before, due to the geographic isolation of la Montagne. In around 1350 these raids suddenly stop.
By this point Montacian history starts, the Montacian people had learnt to read and write from their captives, and the first Montacian chronicles and myths start. From these early documents we know that La Montagne was split between many powerful and warring city states, and that after a relatively peaceful period at home where the montacians struck out a period of great internal strife occurred. Over the next 150 years until approximately the year 1200BCE by modern reckoning, the city states fought for supremacy and eventually the Iceborn family from the icey peaks of la Citadelle became emperors of all they surveyed from their lofty capital.
The fact that these emperors came from the harsh icey tops of mountains is significant in Montacian history as the difficult conditions where all hands were required led to a gender parity that is a consistent feature in Montacian/Izaakian history, but early sources show this was not the case on the warmer shores of la Montagne.
The first emperor of the montacians was Plutarch the Wise, and in many ways he has dominated the national philosophy of the following 3 millennia. Of all the ancient Montacian gods, the Goddess that Plutarch the Wise worshiped the most ferociously was Inteligencia the goddess of Wisdom, Knowledge and Engineering. Plutarch the Wise set about building his dynasty, securing his grip around the peninsula. He build great roads, aqueducts, schools and temples, some of the great Montacian wonders exist from this time, including the Great Montacian Library, and the the Temple to Oceanus. He also encouraged a culture of learning, philosophy and free thinking. He died in 1164 BCE after a long rein and was succeeded by Augustus the Builder.
Augustus the builder fought many boundary battles on the edge of the peninsula, and finally after a decade of battles ending in stalemate he became weary and built the great Montacian wall build by slaves over 7 years, cutting off La Montagne from the continent by land. Secure behind his great walls Augustus the builder started a project that lasts even to this day, he terraced the great mountain, creating agricultural land across most of the nation, providing a wide variety of food and secure from the great famines. He also build the ancient dam, dedicated to the goddess Montacia, the Queen of the gods and goddess of the mountain. Augustus the builder died in 1132 BCE and was succeeded by Anthony the Explorer.
Anthony the explorer was born at the right time in history, his 2 great predecessors had built a secure and safe nation. As a prince he had built the dockyards at Port Ventacia, and built a great many trending ships. Upon the start of his rule, he left his younger sister Atlantia to govern, and set out to discover and explore new lands. He made contact with many nations and city states up and down the coast of Bailtem, bringing back great bounties of plants and knowledge. He also set the precedent of coastal trading along the coast by Izaakian ships. However, after a short reign of just 6 years, he was Killed by King Nebuchadnezzar of the city state Spirio. He was tortured and impaled, then still alive thrown in to the burning bull, a hollow bronze bull with an inferno burning bellow. The screams and smells were said to have shocked the Izaakian Sailors who were spared to send the warning back to stay away.
In 1126BCE Atlantia succeeded her brother as the first Montacian Empress since unification. She was later to be known as Atlantia the Patient Fury. The first year of her reign was spend in mourning, and she built a great temple to her ancestors later known as the dead city of emperors, she the reburied her parents and grand parents there, leaving an empty open grave for her brother. She then spent the next 5 years training the most formidable army, and navy the world had ever seen, before finally setting sail for Spirio in 1120BCE. She captured the beach and surrounding farmland and towns with great ease, and lay siege to the great fortress city of Spirio. Unusually for an invasion, Atlantia had brought the great thinkers of Montacia with her, and they proceeded to build the first siege weapons of the Izaakian Ancients. They built contraptions to hurl rocks at the walls and corpses aver the walls, they made vases of burning oil, that would smash when thrown and set fire to the ground. However, these would not break the Spirionese spirit. After 2 years the supplies within the great city of spirio were running out, and the elders of the city murdered King Nebuchadnezzar and opened the gate hoping for mercy. Mercy was not granted, and all things living within the city were killed, every building dismantled and burned, the surrounding land was salted and evidence of their culture destroyed. A pillar was erected on the site of the burned city engraved with the words, Let this site be a monument to the Montacian Fury that will befall those who cross us.
Empress Atlantia gathered a box of ash from the city, and interred it in the grave of her brother. Feeling the heavy burden of her actions, she laid in her own annex of the dead city of emperors and lay there, not drinking and eating, until after 11 days she succumbed and died.
In 1117BCE she was succeeded by her daughter Empress Diana the Consolidator. Empress Diana was at the siege of Spirio and had proved to be a wise and capable commander. She was also intelligent and observant, seeing how effective these new siege weapons, the disciplined troops and the navy had become. She established 3 schools to warfare, the Antonian school of Land Warfare, the Atlantian School of Naval Warfare, and the Diana School of Siege Warfare. She also established the first Montacian university and perhaps the first university in the world, The Imperial University was founded in 1115BCE with the aim to learn and debate philosophy and science. The formidable fighting reputation led to a relatively stable time period free from invasion until 452 BCE. Over the next 650 years Montacia had stable but largely insignificant emperors, building wealth through trade and knowledge through her great universities and schools.
Montacian Empire and Civil War
By 453 BCE Montacia had grown complacent, and the formerly Great Wall of Montacia had crumbled through neglect. Then in the spring of 452 BCE a great invading force lead by a warlord called Hector crossed the walls and pillaged and conquered the low coastal lands of Montacia. The Emperor at the time was old emperor Nemo, a word that later became a synonym for nobody, due to his lack of effective actions. The emperor old in age and weak in will led the army to numerous defeats until all that was left by the winter of 450BCE was the mountain and its fortress the Citadelle. Seeing the devastation and corruption his weak father had caused in his nation, young prince Titus usurped his father Emperor Nemo, and executed him for treason. Besieged on his mountain Emperor Titus executed the military leaders who had grown corrupt and fat under the reign of his father and replaced them with members of the lower ranks who had excelled. This created an effective force that eventually would break the siege in 448BCE.
During the year of 449BCE Emperor Titus had all the rivers from the mountain dammed, causing a drought on the low lands which broke the morale of the invading forces. Then in the summer of 448BCE Emperor Titus broke the dams and flooded the Hecotrian Armies, taking advantage of the disarray Emperor Titus and his Armies massacred the invading force. Finally capturing Hector as he attempted to retreat across the wall, Emperor Titus then personally flayed the Warlord Hector and displayed his corpse from the Great Wall. Over the next 15 years he built an large army and began to expand out from the peninsula, in a long war with hectors people from the near north. In 433 he was assassinated at the Citadelle games, possibly by Olympia the mother of his twin Successors Julius and Artemesia in order to secure their succession over Titus’ new baby to his second wife.
The two twins aged 10 at their joint coronation excelled at sports, philosophy and maths having the greatest teachers the ancient world had. Under the leadership of their mother until they came of age they spent many years in the court of Montacia as she expanded ever northward. At the Age of 18 I’m 425BCE the twins came of age, close as they were they did not want to risk the country having two rulers fighting and arguing, so they left their mother as regent and set out to conquer the remaining lands of Hector, Julius took control of the army and artemesia took control of the navy. They became one of the most formidable forces in history, acting in tandem and finally overcoming hectors people. During this campaign they had become lovers, which was not accepted in the culture of the montacians. Hiding their love on their return to Montacia they held great victory games, and wealth poured through the cities of Montacia. The twins had decided they would hide their love far from Montacia and spend their lives conquering the world.
In what must be classed as one of the most hedonistic moments in all world history, they led a campaign north along the coast of plunder, invasion, orgies and slaughter, consummating their love on the bodies of conquered kings, queens, lords and ladies. After 5 years they ended their campaign north leaving setraps to rule their nations on their behalf, and after returning to la Citadelle their heir Augustus was born in 420BCE.
Securing their legacy they then led a campaign southwards, more violent and hedonistic than the campaign north. Until after 10 long years they reached the Mediterranean coast. At this point the twins decided to split their forces, which had grown with the soldiers of vanquished nations. Julius would head east into the Mediterranean and Artemesia would head south into bareland.
In bareland Artemisia would come across the large flat nation of Brodlancia which encompassed an area around modern day Brödmark. This large flat land was the land of cavalry, and fortresses, they were led by King Neptune. However his forces were led by General Cato, a formidable warrior, the greatest Empress Artemesia had ever faced. Over 2 years they fought many battles, each gaining great victories, and losses, with many stalemates. Both were impressed by each other’s formidable fighting techniques. In 408BCE they met at peace talks, and they fell into a deep love, and in their night of passion they had both produced their heir and decided to overthrow firstly king Neptune and then artemisias co-emperor julius. King Neptune fell quickly and they lived happily in their new nation until the birth of their daughter Cleopatra in 407BCE.
Emperor Julius heard of this betrayal, and returned to La Montagne burning towns and villages all along the way, destroying their empire legacy faster than they had built it. He then consolidated his power and sailed south. The Montacian civil war between these two twins and former lovers was the most ferocious in Montacian history, it is estimated that 40% of the population of the entire region between Montacia and Brodlancia died during their campaigns and their civil war. During the first year of the civil war, the gained territoires had either been destroyed or regained independence and the ferocious war was now between the territories remaining territories of Montacia and Brodlancia. In the summer of 401BCE the two armies met at the site of the spirio and engaged in the battle of the ages, with 50,000 soldiers on each side they fought for days upon days, piling up bodies as fortifications and progressing in neither persons success but a stalemate. After 6 days of intense fighting a ceasefire was called, and the two twins met, aged 42 and after two and a half decades of near constant war, both were scarred and worn out, Julius was strong and broad with a scar down his face and an eye missing, but clean shaven and well groomed in the montacians way, with heavy imperial armour to protect himself. Artemisia nearly matching her twin in Height, she had filled her teeth into spikes, and tattooed her body, not wearing armour, but instead choosing light and loose clothing that left little to the imagination, but also barely constrained her movements. By the pillar their ancestors had erected, their agreed to fight one on one, until one survived. The fight was brutal and the victor was artemisia, with a blow to her brothers legs with her sword she crippled him, then straddled his body and using her spiked teeth ripped his throat from his body.
Looking over this scene, was their son, and emperor Julius’ heir Augustus, he had grown mad, probably due to incest and terrified by this scene ordered his army to attack, terrified they did not, and he charged alone, his mother Artemesia swiftly removed his head from his shoulders and devastated by her actions with tears down her face she stabbed a spear into the ground, climbed the pillar of her ancestors, and jumped from it, impaling herself on the spear.
After this great spectacle, both armies retreated and the greatest disturbance of ancient history was over. In Montacia they were succeeded by their half brother Emperor Alexander and in Brödlancia by Artemisias Daughter Cleopatra I and peace reigned in the region that was a shadow of its former self, Montacia and Brodlancia would never fully recover.
Reunification
The 400 years following the collapse of the Montacian empire were a period of decreasing power and influence, crops went untended, buildings unrepaired and the great libraries and universities a shadow of their former self, with scrolls and books turning to dust.
In the year 0 by modern reckoning Brodlancia and Montacia royal houses reunited after 4 centuries of smaller wars to establish the true heir the Montacian throne. The marriage was a marriage of pragmatism, with rival nations becoming stronger and a threat to the existence of the Montacian people. Emperor Marcus and Empress Fantasia would rule together for a long co-reign from the old capital of La Citadelle. With their empire covering 2 separated regions, they created a large navy and trading fleet, and this would set the story of the Montacian empire for the next 1500 years. The next Montacian empire would not be an empire of swords and shields, but an empire of commerce and trade. Over the next millennium and a half Montacia would grow rich and the once great universities, monuments and walls would be rebuilt and expanded, until their greatness and wealth exceeded any levels previously seen by the Montacian people.
Fall of Montacia
In 1532 the first arrival of ships from outside of south Pacifica arrived on the shores of Montacia, at first they wanted to trade and were welcomed by Queen Artemesia XII and they brought new wealth and knowledge of Montacia. However, they also brought their Christian religion. In the north, in Montacia the Boreal Empire and their Catholic religion and in the south in Brodlancia the Austral Empire and their Protestant religion. The religions spread like fire through the nation, and by 1536 rebellion was in the air, assisted by the Austral and Boreal Empires as the royals and elites, along with many faithful montacians would not be converted and would stay loyal to the old gods. In 1537 the Austral Empire officially colonised Brodlancia and the Boreal Empire colonised Montacia. With nowhere to go Empress Artemesia gathered those who were loyal, took her fleet and wandered lonely on the seas, and empress with no empire she committed herself to fighting the new christendom and their trade, even venturing out of the South Pacific and to the lands beyond the sea.
The Montacia and Brodlancia First Colonial War 1537-1545
In 1537, the Boreal Empire officially colonised Montacia, renaming it La Montagne. The junior royal house of Gomorrah under Patriarch Maximilian I converted to Catholicism and were promoted by the Boreal Empire to be the Kings of Greater Montacia (Including Brodlancia) however the Boreals ran the country in the name of the puppet king. This period marks the first time in Montacian history where women were excluded from the line of succession.
At the same time in 1537 the Austral Empire colonised Brodlancia, and similarly promoted the Dukes of Olicania, who’s head Duchess Marina was Empress Artemesia XII’s cousin, to the rank of Monarchs of Greater Brodlancia (Including Montacia). Although women were not barred from inheriting during this period, primogeniture meant that Men most often ascended to the throne.
The competing royal houses of Gomorrah and Olicana backed by the Boreal and Austral empires did not waste time in fighting for their rights to claim the Ice Throne. In 1538 Queen Marina of Brodlancia crossed into Montacia to claim the throne and remove Catholicism and the Boreal empire from Montacia. The war was extremely brutal, towns and villages that did not immediately surrender were massacred to the last child. For towns that did surrender, any Catholic who would not convert to Protestantism was tortured and burned. By the summer of 1540 Queen Marina controlled all of North Montacia and began to lay siege to the Imperial Capital of La Citadelle.
King Maximilian of Montacia attempted the break the siege like Emperor Titus had over 2000 years earlier by damning the rivers down the mountains. However, after a 16 month siege and before this plan came to fruition Queen Marina of Brodlancia was forced to retreat.
Queen Marinas retreat was caused by a pirate force led by Empress Artemesia XII which had grown stronger and richer after 4 years of distrusting trade to the region. The pirate force landed at Fort Astride and seized control with relative ease after a mutiny by the towns people caused by the Brodlancian Hostility. From this strong hold Empress Artemesia ordered raids on supply convoys and military camps which made the Brodlancian (Austral) occupation of Montacia unfeasible. In March 1542 the Boreal and Austral empires signed a treaty recognising each other’s claims.
This however, put Empress Artemesia on the back foot. Fort Astride remained a strong hold for the next three years, however the surrounding countryside returned to Boreal control under King Maximilian. This led to the Montacian inquisition, where all those who had converted to Protestantism from Catholicism during the occupation of Queen Marina were stripped of all their assets and in many cases executed. This led to a famine.
By June 1542 Fort Astride which was declared the Izkän City State (Free City State), was under siege by the Boreal and Montacian force. However the city stood strong due to its large naval size, which managed to prevent a naval blockade. The siege lasted for 3 long years during which disease was rampant within the city, until in December 1545 the Boreal and Austral Empires ordered King Maximilian of Montacia and Queen Marina of Brodlancia to unite in order to storm Fort Astride.
During an initial foray by Queen Marina into the Izkän City state she was ambushed by Empress Artemesias son, Edward the Black Prince and captured. She was then flayed alive on the city walls and flown as a banner over the gates. Despite this early victory Empress Artemisa and The Black Prince ordered an evacuation, and set sail across the ocean where they could find somewhere safe for their people.
Queen Marina of Brodlancia was succeeded by her son King George I of Brodlancia, which marks the first time in Montacian History that a male heir succeeded the throne despite having an older sister.
Royal Exile and Piracy
The imperial Iceborn family was exiled from the disintegrating Montacian Empire after Boreal and Austral colonists arrived in the early 16th century, first as traders and missionaries, but increasingly with force and imperial designs. Over the next 70 years the Iceborn family partook in piracy and were highly successful, amassing a large private fleet that rival led the fleets of many contemporary nations. After 70 years drifting around on the seas committing heinous acts of piracy the Iceborn family became the most infamous fugitives in Pacifica.
To escape from the pursuing fleets the Iceborn family and their fleet ran to the edge of the world through the stormy southern seas where they founded Mako Town in 1607. Over the next 65 years various raids throughout Pacifica were highly prolific, however trading started to become highly profitable business with their large shipping fleet.
In 1672 the head of the Iceborn family King Hector sent a delegation to Sedunn offering to protect shipping and fight the rising pirate fleets from Huawan and Government Island for a bounty. This continued until the final collapse of piracy in 1775. As the war on piracy escalated during the 1760s Mako Town came victim to a pirate blockade whist the fleet was at sea, unable to communicate the imperial fleet Mako Town stood alone. During the blockade Mako Town was engulfed in flames on the night of July 12th 1768 and only the stone built Fort Mako survived the inferno. On July 22nd a severe winter storm which lasted 40 days and 40 nights hit Mako Town, and when the storm finally cleared the pirate fleet had been sunk by the weather. Survivors from the pirate fleet were hunted down and either press-ganged or executed. To present day this is the only conflict to be fought in Izaakian Territory.
On seeing the devastation of the ruined Mako Town, Queen Athena declared that a new city would be built from the ashes and rise like a Phoenix and she procured the services of famous engineer Jacques Kennedy-StClair to design a New Mako City in a utopian fashion. He designed the city in a grid system with many open spaces and communal areas. During this time Queen Athena began many political reforms in property rights and the beginning of democratic reform, with a new parliament.
Izaakia regained most of its previous strength by 1774, just in time for the final assault on piracy In 1775. Following the collapse of piracy izaakia focused trade and began a period of sustained economic growth and political stability. By 1840 Mako Island had become highly over populated due to refugees from wars in Pacifica. So by a royal decree from Queen Valkyrie II a large section of uninhabited mainland Keylian was annexed between 10 degrees west and 16 degrees west. On this land a new capital city was built with a cartwheel layout across the straights of Mako. This city became the imperial city with Queen Valkyrie II declaring herself Empress.

On this land a new capital city was built with a cartwheel layout across the straights of Mako. This city became the imperial city with Queen Valkyrie II declaring herself Empress.
The new capital city Izaakston became the heart of the scientific, medical and technological revolutions of the following 60 years with the Izaakston University, Iceborn Imperial Medical School and Imperial Izaakian University making major leaps in surgery, chemistry and physics.
By 1908 Izaakian scientists and engineers had made hugely significant progress in harvesting electrical energy and began using it for polar agriculture in heated greenhouses, with nutritional self sufficiency becoming a national priory over the next 20 years, exploiting the skills of immigrants from agriculturally based nations.
Recent
During the 1920s the rise of communism elsewhere in Pacifica was resisted in Izaakia due to high levels of development and a low level of inequality. However, power was fully ceded from the imperial family to the elected Parliament in Izaakston, and reforms such as a National Health service and social security, placating any rebellious groups. In 1940 Izaakia hosted the World Fair in a purpose built utopian city called Polar City, this town was south of the Antarctic circle and was accessible by road from Izaakston or by the Polar City Aerodrome. Polar city was powered by the world first Nuclear Power Station, and was built entirely inside a series of climate controlled Geodesic domes. In 1948 Izaakia firmly made a statement as to its position as the worlds most open nation by accepting the Eareamland Royal family and their government in exile as refugees. This status lasted until their return to power in 1975 after a civil war against the communist regime. During this time the izaakian government provided economic support and weapons to the government in exile and their struggle against communism.
Between 1949 and 1955 the Great War raged throughout Pacifica, but izaakia remain neutral, accepting refugees from both sides and becoming a safe haven for wealth internationally. Although this created tensions within izaakia, competitive outlets such as the emerging motor racing culture prevented these tensions from boiling over. During this period the population of izaakia increased 40% to 16 million people.
After the war Izaakia provided aid to help with the rebuilding of the war torn nations, and with its new found wealth and acquisition of the worlds most advanced rocket scientists, Izaakia began its space program in 1957. The Izaakian Space Agency (ISA) first put a satellite in space in 1967, with the first man and woman in space happening in 1969. In 1976 izaakian astronaughts landed on the moon Minima and in 1979 Maxima.
Izaakia was an early adopter of computer technology with many tech firms, notably Taiga, this led to a financial bubble which finally crashed in 2002. This caused a significant recession in izaakia and led to izaakia becoming a low regulation, low tax economy to encourage foreign investment and companies to set up manufacturing bases in the country. By the end of the decade izaakia had fully transformed into a zero carbon economy with high levels of exports from manufacturing, and financial services.
In 2016, Empress Astrid was coronated at the age of 27 after the death of father Emperor Ivar III. She promised to advise the izaakian government into a future of unrivalled stability and scientific prowess.

The Montacia Principle
The Montacia Principle has been the guiding political principle of Izaakia since The Great War 1949-1955. When the war started in 1949 parliament decided on neutrality and formed a unity government between all elected parties. The Premier of the time was Charles Montacia after whom the principle is name. Under Charles Montacia the government acted with absolute pragmatism in governance, following no ideology, except strong leadership. Under Charles Montacia the power of the premier and the state increased significantly.
Under the unity government the military and industry was strengthened to combat the global instability to defend izaakian independence from undue foreign influence and invasion.
The Montacia Principle is summed up by the following points: - Political independence from outside super powers. - Pragmatic a-political premiership. - Strong independent defence capabilities including protected internal manufacturing. - Reclamation of the territories lost during colonialism. - A strong but un-intrusive state. - Refuse no refugee. - Flexible unwritten constitution. - Izaakian Exceptionalism
Charles Montacia was re-elected in 1955 and remained premier until 1960. Ever since The Montacia Principle has been adopted and evolved by all political parties in power.
