The Ikaranarean Armed Forces are the collective militant forces of The Federated Empires of Ikaranara.

History

The Ikaranarean Armed Forces had their roots in the Great Revolution as the Revolutionaries. They fought against the Father States. They were comprised of mainly mutineers from the militaries of the Father States, particularly from Narus and Ranaras, where the military people were treated less well than in the former two, and citizen milita. Eventually, with Ikarnian losses in the Great War and the growing unpopularity of the 3 regimes, as well as citizen support for the revolution, the revolutionaries outnumbered the militaries of the three countries, and the Father States finally caved.

Cold War

The Cold War saw the rapid expansion of the Ikaranarean armed forces, particularly in the 1970s-1980s, to better protect Ikaranarean trade interests and enforce its internal sovereignty. This era saw especially the strengthening of the Navy to better protect neutral trading vessels from both Ikaranara and abroad. This also saw the secret Ikaranarean nuclear program, however, Ikaranara preferred to build Tactical Nuclear Weapons over Strategic Nuclear Weapons, only building 3 of the latter, which were silently disbanded in 1998. This Era saw the creation of Sky Control, which controlled internal missile launches as well as the missile defense system, later also taking on the role of Electronic and Cyber warfare.

Modern Era

The Ikaranarean Armed forces largely simply upkept their Cold War advancements during the 2000s and 2010s, with minor modernization going underway. Mainly, the electronic warfare capability of Sky Control was increased. In 2018, Ikaranara started manufacturing 2 out of a planned 4 new aircraft carriers to replace their aging ones from the Cold War. In 2020, Ikaranara started production on the second batch of 2, with the first batch being planned to complete in 2024, the second in 2026. In 2022, After engaging in several military engagements with the Invasion of and War in Past, as well as the Rycco-Cordilian war, Ikaranara raised its military spending to 5% of the GDP.

Mission and Doctrine

The mission of the Ikaranarean Military is to protect Ikaranara's sovereignty of its territory, that of Ikaranara's allies, and to enact the will of the Ikaranarean government abroad. This can include protecting Ikaranarean trade rights, protecting the rights of Ikaranarean expats, and counter-terrorism operations.

Especially during the Cold War, Ikaranara enacted a military doctrine based on the principles of Military Strategy and Grand Strategy using artillery strikes and strategic bombing to reduce a nation's capacity for war, with naval and aerial blockading to reduce their supplies and willingness to fight. On the ground, Ikaranara adopted a similar policy of using artillery to strike at oncoming forces before they arrived. Their tactics are also linked in depth with deep espionage, all points influenced by Safarkron's "The Practice of Warfare." in 2000, a revision of the Ground Forces was done, and Ikaranara started to pursue a greater combined arms potential, producing tanks, IFVs, and other combat vehicles, as well as increasing the number of aircraft they had. However, by 2010, production had largely slowed down, following a period of relative peace.

Command Structure

Command of the Ikaranarean military during war is given to the Commander of the Armed Forces, the highest ranking officer in the military. Military policy is set by the Head Governor as Commander-in-chief, and the Head Governor has an unconditional veto on matters revolving military action. Military policy is enforced by the Defense Ministry, which handles things like national funding to the military, commissions for equipment to local suppliers, and public statements about the military. The Defense Minister is the head minister of the Defense Ministry, and it is their job to make sure the Ministry does all of its required work.

Personnel

Ikaranara conscripts a minority of all age groups for service. Additionally, there are a large number of volunteers that either were not conscripted or chose to join the armed service during or after their mandatory service. Only Volunteers or willing conscripts can be put into active combat areas outside of the country.
