The Southern War was a conflict between the Holy Imperium of Trianar and a nation which is only known as the Great Confederation. Much of the history of the Great Confederation is unknown and shrouded in mystery as it was very hard for the Trianarö to take any captives. The war was also unique in that it was almost entirely a naval war and no surface combat was initiated- thus all Trianarö casualties were military. It is unknown whether the Great Confederation had civilians on their ships.

Prelude

Trianar had only recently been colonizing planets inside of the Southern Red Nebula. It was very hard to detect movement there at the time as patrol systems were still being established and the extremely dense nebula made it difficult to set these up quickly. Despite this, a Daikarn, a mystical dragon-like Hyperfauna, was spotted outside the border planet Aldingyar that had been set up only a year before. The Trianarö were not hostile to it, simply observing it, and eventually it left with no troubles. Later the Trianarö would figure out that it was actually a chipped scout for the Great Confederation.

Course of the war

Hostilities break out

On the 33rd of Fafasatö, 50 BBT, a contingent of 12 ~15 km long ships appeared from the nebula. The Trianarö Imperium Forces were called in to investigate and the 122nd Elite Defense Fleet was fired upon by these ships. 2 frigates and 1 Corvette were destroyed, while 6 enemy ships were destroyed before they fled. The Trianarö were confused and therefore pursued a greater military presence in the area to combat their new enemy.

Logistical challenges

Due to the extremely dense nebula that is the SRN, it was hard to locate and destroy ships with signatures of the Great Coalition as they were obscured. Due to the lack of planetary combat, and the fact that boarding actions not being popular in Trianarö doctrine, it was downright impossible to get POWs and thus much of the information about the Great Confederation is a series of educated guesses based on what the TIFSF scanned before and during combat. The name Great Confederation itself is a guess due to the wild range of biological signatures and ship signatures the ships scanned.

Skirmishes

Trianarö ships pursued a policy of attacking on sight any unchipped ships in the SRN during the war. Numerous battles occurred, small in scale. Flagships appeared in many of them and none were destroyed due to superior Trianarö shielding. However, many smaller ships, including Corvettes, Frigates, Destroyers and even some Battleships, were destroyed in more intense battles.
