The speaker of the World Forum or Speaker of the (World Forum) Assembly is the head of the World Forum. The role is laid out in Article II, Section A, No. 3 of the Charter of the World Forum. On 29 November 2017 the World Forum members decided on World Forum Resolution No. 1 proposed by The Federated States of Omega, which introduced a framework of the speaker's tasks and election process.
Since after the elections of July 2024, Rhaynan ambassador Andreus Savvidis is the incumbent speaker of the assembly.
Role
The speaker of the assembly serves as primary representative of the World Forum as a whole and leads debates in the assembly. Furthermore submitted resolutions will only get adopted, if the speaker verifies the approval of the assembly for it.
Election and Term of Office
The voting process starts eleven months into a speaker's term. For 7 days all members of the World Forum may nominate any nation except for themselves for the position of speaker of the assembly.
Only nations that accepted their nomination and are not serving as current speaker of the assembly continue to run for speakership in the following 7 day election. This election follows the instant-runoff voting system, where all members got exactly one vote and can also opt for reopening the nomination process. The ambassador of the nation that received the most votes will get styled as the new speaker of the assembly and may put a vice-speaker of his choice up to vote.
While there is no limit of maximum terms established, speakers of the assembly may only serve one consecutive twelve-months-term. However it's also possible for the assembly to remove a speaker from their office with a 2/3-majority, or for a speaker to step back from their office. In both cases the vice-speaker continues to fulfill the elected speaker's rights and duties until the next speakership election.
Originally the Speaker of the Assembly was only serving a six-months-term. This had been changed with the first Reform Resolution implemented on 13 May 2022.
Residence
The speakers of the World Forum reside in their own homes in Grovne, Sedunn near the headquarters of the organisation. This was a necessity at first due to the short length of the speakership term. Since a longer term length was implemented in May 2022, discussions have arisen, whether the Speaker should reside in a separate building on the WF complex in Tillava instead.
