The Council of Government (Mauquibian: Conseil du Gouvernement) is the de facto executive branch of the Grand Duchy of Mauquibie. It is led by the Grand Duke and it is an advisory council within the Privy Council of the Grand Duke, where decisions are discussed before being decided by the Privy Council.
The Council is supposed to become the full executive body of Mauquibie, becoming its own entity and with the Privy Council remaining active as an advisory body, mostly only restricted to the Royal affairs. With the Grand Duke heading both institutions, decisions that are recommended to the Privy Council by the Council of Government are generally the ones approved.
The Council of Government is a recent institution, being created in 2001 by Grand Duke Louis-Philippe III following calls by the population for a greater democratic process. The Council of Government was created alongside other institutions such as the National Assembly.
Members
- Main article: Intendants of Mauquibie
Except for the Grand Duke, all the members of the Council of Government are appointed by the Grand Duke. The Minister-President is, by tradition, the leader of the political party with the most elected members in the Chamber of Deputies.
