The Conservative Coalition (Anserisan: Coalitio Conservativa) is a political party active in the Republic of Anserisa.

It was founded shortly after the proclamation of the Republic of Anserisa in 1815, and has been active since.

History

The political party was originally founded by some people still loyal to Emperor Hadriano and was a strong opponent of the Republic in its infancy. As time went by, the political party was not attracting enough people some people proposed to postpone the imperial loyalist policies and focus on actually winning an election which had yet to happen in 1820, after the second Presidential election. For the third election, the party proposed a more centrist candidate and was able to rally the votes to have the first conservative President, Antonio Secundum.

First President

Antonio Secundum became President in 1824 and lasted for one mandate only.

Republican reign

For about 60 years, the Republican Alliance ruled the nation under which the Conservative Coalition changed radically in its structure. The party abolished all mentions of loyalist sentiments toward the former Anserisan Empire and anyone who had expressed sympathies before for the Empire had to sign a declaration stating that they renounced these expressions before being a member of the party. The party also underwent huge changes in its ways to oppose the Republican Alliance considering the huge popularity shown to the party by the population.

As the opposition, the Conservative Coalition worked hard to denounce the actions of President Cassio Herminium which had to resign in 1850.

Weak leadership and divided members where one of the elements which allowed Maximiliano Nervum to stay as President for many years, becoming the longest-serving President when he retired from public office in 1888, at which point a strong leader had been appointed to the leadership of the Conservative Coalition.

Death of Arisum

Liviano Arisum won the Presidential election of 1888 with a landslide victory over the Republican Alliance which had ruled the nation for about 60 years. Considered widely popular at the time, Arisum died on 19 December 1889, only after being President for 1 year and 196 days, becoming the first President to die while in office. Vespasiano Marcianum, then Vice-President was sworn in the same day to become President and completed the term before losing in the election of 1892.

Modern presidency

The election of 2002 saw the first election of a conservative President since Julio Petronium in 1930. The transformed political landscape had pushed the Conservative coalition to question its founding principles and Mauritio Cyprianum was elected on a really moderate electoral program and in the midst of a fatigued Socialist Union and a population frustrated by the Republican Alliance.
