The Republican Alliance (Anserisan: Alliança Republicana) is a political party active in the Republic of Anserisa.

History

The Republican Alliance was founded in 1810 as a clandestine group simply known as The Republicans, formed mostly by former leaders which were betrayed by Hadriano Aquilum, which had proclaimed himself Emperor and declared the Anserisan Empire.

Clandestine political group

Meeting in secrecy, the political group was planning a coup d'état which would overthrow Emperor Hadriano and its government and establish the Republic which had been the original plan of the Republican Revolution of 1789-1792. Many founding members of the group ultimately became Presidents, like Auréliano Régulum and Cassio Herminium. Also part of the group was Calpurnio Fabricium who went on to become the first President, although remaining neutral as an independent.

First President

Auréliano Régulum became the first elected President following the election of 1816 which was the first open election after the election of 1815 which was mostly an election to confirm the choice of Fabricium as President. Régulum was a popular President, following the footsteps of Fabricium and continuing the modernization of the nation that had begun with Hadriano during the Empire.

Republican reign

For almost 60 years, the Republican Alliance held an quasi-absolute control over the politics of Anserisa.

Cassio Herminium controversy

Cassio Herminium had been elected President for the first time in the election of 1828 and after losing to independent candidate Junio Iulianum decided to run again in the election of 1848 and won the election. During this tenure, the Conservative Coalition started some inquiries into some possible conflicts of interest by Herminium, which was the owner of a railroad construction company that had recently been gaining more contracts from the government. As it turned out, Herminium had replaced some public officials with friends which overlooked propositions made by other companies in favour of his company. Following the unveiling of the scandalous practices by Herminium, he resigned in 1850, allowing Terentio Quintillum, then Vice-President to be sworn in as President and complete the remainder of Herminium's term. Quintillum went on to win the election of 1854.
