The Socialist Union (Anserisan: Unio Socialista) is a political party active in the Republic of Anserisa.

History

The Socialist Union was founded in 1919 following a similar trend as other South Pacific nations of socialist and communists parties. Founded originally as the Social-Democratic Party, the party fused in 1937 with the Popular Worker's Front and the Liberal League to form the Socialist Union. Considered to be a marginal party, the Socialist Union gained traction in the subsequent elections culminating with a Presidential victory in the election of 1946.

First President

Martino Gallum became the first socialist President in 1946 and started a near-50 years long reign of the Socialist Union.

Socialist reign

For near 50 years, the Socialist Union dominated the political landscape of Anserisa and transformed the social construct of the nation with its socialist agenda. Many social programs were introduced, such as welfare, free healthcare and free education, construction of major public projects such as the tram systems of the major municipalities of Brantavilla and Concordia. It came to an end after the decision of Valentina Antoninum to retire after her last mandate which ended in 1994.

Modern presidency

Since 2014, the Socialist Union is back on the presidency, with Columbo Septimum, who was reelected in 2018.
